Glad to see that no last minute pardons were issued for those tied to the torture and other issues which might have warranted such actions. Its probably one of the few things Ill ever agree with Bush on. Since we are witnessing the inauguration, I wanted to be first up with this.

Every president gets hundreds towards the end of their time. Some are warranted, others, such as the ones I was worried about, are not.

In the spirit of the occassion I will issue another apology for misoverestimating Bush in thinking there might be a 'coup' to stay in office.

I dont think anyone needs to apologize for what they believed. Its one thing to be wrong about a fact, but its something else to have very warranted concerns and then have them not come to pass.

I agree there is no need to apologize, just decent to acknowledge that you were wrong which you have done. BTW, no pardon of Scooter Libby either which many predicted. Now it's time to turn the page on a new administration.

In the end I believe he made many less pardons that Clinton did before him but we will have to see. Now it's time to turn the page on a new administration.

Still taking shots at Clinton, but we should leave Bush alone. Beautiful.

I decided to delete the Clinton reference but you caught it before I could. I realized it was a superfluous and irrelevant point. You can spend the rest of your life attacking President Bush and in many cases it will be warranted. I am not saying we should not discuss his presidency ever again. I am saying that we have a new president and plenty of other things to discuss on a regular basis. If an issue comes up good or bad relating to the Bush administration, I will be the first to raise it.

I don't think we can underestimate any effect of all those folks "getting excited" over what he might do had on any desicion Bush made.

Well look at it this way, if Bush pardoned these folks he would have been the only one without a pardon and would technically have been the only one left holding the bag so to speak if found guilty in any future investigation. Bush does not seem to be the type of person to go down alone, in my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bush and Obama made a gentleman's agreement for Pres Obama (cool to type that!) not to push for prosecutions and Bush agreeing to not issue blanket pardons for all involved. For the good of the country so we all can move on. But we'll never know most likely.

Meanwhile, Obama's attorney general nominee said that it will take a while to close Gitmo because there is that 'third group' of prisoners who can't be tried and who will definitely kill again, as many who have been freed have. What should be done with these lowlifes??

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Attorney General-designate Eric Holder said Thursday that the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be closed after President-elect Obama takes office, but not as soon as the administration would like.

Holder made the comments as he appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for his confirmation hearing.

The physical act of closing the Guantanamo Bay facility isn't a problem, noted Holder. The more pressing question, he said, is the fate of the roughly 250 inmates currently being held there.

Some of the inmates, Holder said, can be sent to other countries, while others can be prosecuted.

A third group of inmates, Holder indicated, can't be tried "for a variety of reasons" but also can't be released because they are too dangerous.

For that reason, the Obama administration won't be able to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility "as soon as we'd like."

For the good of the country? Brock...I don't get this at all. How can it be good for the country to ignore the rule of law? These are crimes that tarnished our reputation, that killed people, that send a message that America is not beholden to the very concepts it has insisted on for everyone else. I say they are not above the law and should be facing the dock. Let a jury decide.

I believe he honestly feels that he and his administration didn't do anything illegal.
To quote somebody else who's been there ... "it's not illegal when the president does it!"

The pardons not happening isn't that simple. If he would have done it, it opens a very big door for the International Court of Justice to pursue them in a different manner than if he leaves the manila folders closed for the time being.

There have been some references to Cheney's last television interview where his statement has opened up the Bush administration for taking the blame for authorizing the waterboarding.

Answered a while back by yours truly (twice actually). Seriously, is this how you are going to "support" President Obama? How hard was it to understand the answers given?

Taking the blame?? They have relished the fact that they used torture. Time and time again they have reasserted their rightful decision on all this.

I hate to bring this up, but I was just reading that its currently not known if he actually did sign any last minute pardons. Might be known by tomorrow or later this week. I hope we dont hear anything.

Well it's not unusual for outgoing executives to that.

But there are are a couple other predictions that people made that did't happen that I could pounce on.

My favorite was W declaring martial law and staying in office

I didn't say it was definitely going to happen....I said it was a possibility I was worried about. Thankfully, it never came to pass.

To be fair though, I believe that was conditional on another attack close to the changeover of Presidential duties.
