Kevin, JR's wife has been in the hospital.

You can find the synopsis in the KCJimmy Lounge thread in the trades section.

Subject: Melissa

Friday 1-9-2008

They started her on blood thinners (1-2-2008) and got the swelling in her legs to go down, but it destroyed her colon. It is swollen, and is in a condition called toxic mega colon. Because she was so dehydrated the heparin and coumadin (blood thinner's) got her blood twice as thin as they wanted and it continued after 3 days of no thinners to get her blood 3 times thinner. Thursday night she started to bleed internally and had to get 2 units of plasma and 2 units of blood, then today they did a endoscopies and sigmoid scope of the colon and didn't find anything that would cause that volume of blood. They also put a filter (wire spring cage) in the venial cava between the fork in the crotch and the kidneys to stop the clot from moving into the kidneys, lung or heart.

After these 3 procedures today, they gave her 2 more units of plasma and took about 10 vials of blood so they can grow cultures and test the strength of her body before the do surgery if needed. We are drinking the laxatives and Gatorade right now trying to flush her out completely for the colonoscopy in the AM. So I'm on bed pan duty all night....

Sat 1-10-2008

After the colonoscopy we have found several large sores that were the cause of the bleeding, and have found out that she was miss diagnosed in 2002 for colitis and she really has a disease called Chrones, luckily the medication that she has been taking for the last 7 years is the same as for Chrones. They have verified that the internal bleeding has stopped and after 2 more units of plasma, her hemoglobin is at a normal level, and her blood is thinned to therapeutic levels and will be monitored every 6 hours for the next couple days.

With the blood beginning to thicken back up, there is a fear that the clots in her leg will start to increase the swelling again and we will be back to square one with the exception that the filter has been installed and will prevent the clots from hitting her hard. We are in X-Ray now, just to check her lungs again for any abnormalities or pneumonia.

1-12-2009 Monday

Her Old Doctors were Quacks, and changing horses in the middle of the stream isn't always the best thing, But thanks to my common since she is still alive. New doctors with better results.

All her vital signs are normal again, which means her body is on the right road to recovery.

White blood cell count is back to normal and fever has dropped to 99.5 at its highest, and normal most times. Her blood is still at a "therapeutic level" so the clots in her legs will not present any signs for another day or two if at all. Hemoglobin is still a little low, but her body is bringing it back up slowly, so no more plasma or blood will be needed. ( If you can give blood, please do, it may save your life one day, it sure saved hers.)

Her electrolytes are good so her dehydration is almost behind her. Potassium is still low, but they have her on supplements and it is improving.

Her diet has been moved from clear liquids only to "full" liquids, and maybe solids tomorrow. She hasn't had anymore bleeding, and has been mobile a couple times yesterday, and a couple times already this morning.

Still no idea on when we'll be home, depending on swelling and the need for more blood thinners.

Sarah is handling this better than anyone else in the family, she's the toughest 5 year old little girl in the world. The hardest part of this whole ordeal has been the times we have missed sharing as a family. Truly changes your perspective on reality to have a life changing experience like this.

It is our strong Christian faith, and trust in GOD and beliefs that have given us the strength to endure this. I strongly urge anyone who is not saved and doesn't have Jesus in there hearts, to get it NOW.

1-15-09

Melissa is doing much, much better today. And we really want to thank everyone for there thoughts, prayers, phone calls and visits. It really makes us feel really special to know we are loved by so many.

Her vital signs and blood work are all normal for the medicines and infections in her body and she is progressing more and more everyday.

She was up out of bed yesterday for 10 hours, and is working hard at walking around and getting back to 100%. Hopefully we can go home and get back to normal soon.

1-18-2008

Melissa is doing 100% better and is up and about doing her rehab laps on a regular basis. They started the blood thinners again and so far so good. The swelling and the pain have both gone down. Hopefully since she is so much stronger and they have more of an idea about what she can stand, they will be able to get her dosages regulated and we will be out of here by the end of the week.

Only time will tell.

All thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

God Bless you JR. hope Melisa is home soon.

autoimmune diseases like Crohn's disease really suck.
I hope they have it diagnosed right this time, because It will offer some other treatment options
for the long run.
