I just can't get over the version on Instant Live, New Orleans Jazz Festival 2007. I've always preferred (and still love) the original studio version on Eat a Peach. But man, the entire band just KILLS this song in this live version. Gregg's vocals are so emphatic, soulful, and right in tune..........I don't know if I've ever heard him sing the song like he MEANT it so much. And then Derek's slide kicks in and the tune just soars thereafter, Derek and Co. carrying it off to some heavenly heights.

I've always thought "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" was right up there with the greatest songs that Gregg Allman has ever written. What a touching revelation of his pain over Duane's death, and then his brave proclamation to start anew, move on, live again.
I've just never heard it delivered live so eloquently as on the 2007 New Orleans Jazz disc, which if you don't have it by the way, is certainly one to pick up soon. Warren said in an interview that the setlist was selected with both the casual and serious fan in mind, so it includes a lot of hits. It also happens to climax in stunning fashion with the most mindblowing "Jessica" you're ever gonna hear, including a guest performance by Mr. Chuck Leavell.

Wasn't this song recorded before Duanes passing? if not who played the slide on the original ? the original for me is still the best the slide is just great on it.

That's Dickey on the studio cut, he really cuts deep on it, too. I agree, after "Dreams" it's probably my second favorite ABB tune and the studio cut scorches. I also really dig the Mar-y-Sol version, and the Warren/Dickey versions when they resurrected the tune. I remember writing up something about the evolution of that tune, as it has slowly morphed in a great vehicle for Derek, he really nails that solo like crazy.

I like the Wipe The Windows version. A little slow paced but the drumming is great and you have my favorite Dickey slide solo at the end when he really ramps it up. Plus you get to hear the piano and B3 together live like it is on the studio cut.

Gregg wrote it weeks after Duane's death. It's probably my favorite Gregg Allman composition. It really is a different song now than it was before Derek was in the band. I love it now but nothing beats the original for its poignancy. Just hearing Dickey's slide knowing Duane was no longer there is poignant.

Was this ever rereleased on CD? I had the double vinyl years ago. John Nitzinger was unreal on the album. He was also the guitarist for Bloodrock.

Thanks for posting about this recording.Your review makes me want to buy this Instant Live.Is it the one that is being sold on the merchandise link? ( I'm still a newbie as far as internet goes as one can tell with my all caps tag I registered with when I couldn't type) An answer to this seemingly silly question would be greatly appreciated before I attempt to make an internet order. Thanks!

I don't think I'll ever love anything more than the studio version. Gregg's vocal on that is just so emotional and the recording is so tight.

But if you can, check out 8/28/08. Want to hear the WHOLE band on fire? Holy crap, that's an amazing extended version.
