I tried to buy 4 VIPs for MSG today at 12:00 PM and was unable to. The site was overwhelmed and when I finally got in at 1:00 they were sold out. I do agree it is ridiculous to pay so much. A good friend with mucho dinero was going to help me and my friend pay for these tickets but even for $475.00 a pop we were unable to grab them. I still know I will be going to this show and I will be sitting in a good seat by one way or another.

The demand was caused by all shows going on sale at once..... so that is an indication of demand when taking in consideration the hundreds of thousands of tickets up for grabs.
They might have been in high demand but that is not a good litmus tetst. ____________________

It proves Live Nation has a lot to learn about ticketing, nothing more.
This was only a pre-sale anyway.
MSG on a Saturday night might be one of the few shows of the tour that could possibly sell out.
Weeknight shows will never sell out at these prices, especially now. ____________________ My momma said typing would be a good thing to know....that was BEFORE computers....

It was not Live Nation doing the presale, but rather Musictoday. I tried to get in for a while to help a friend get Shoreline tix, but the site was too slow so I gave up. At 130 I tried again, got in, but nothing reserved was available by then. |

If you really want to get sick, take a look at the prices for Dead and Allman tickets on stub hub. |

I have no interest in seeing the Dead, but if they come nearby (nothing scheduled yet) I'lll definately go hang out in the parking lot for a few hours before the show. More fun and less $$$! |

I signed on but decided not to pay $100 per ticket.
I'll use the savings for gas money to see an extra summer ABB show or two. ____________________ Hittin' The Web::Hugh Duty Memorial Giveaway has begun!

Well, I posted on another thread that the tickets are going to tank and I stick by that statement. I agree with the other poster that MSG will sell out since it is on a Saturday night. If they were confident about selling more tickets they would have booked more nights.
Regarding stubhub and the other crappy sites, remember that market is completely artificial. Folks posting tickets for whatever they think they can get. Rarely does it reflect the reality of the situation. I am willing to bet whatever anyone wants to that tickets the night of the show with perhaps the exception of the MSG show will be going for less than face. The show I would go to, and it depends on other shows I am going to, would be the MSG show and I am in no rush to buy tickets. I also know I will not be paying more than face and certainly not for crappy seats. Mark my words-it will happen.
One last thing-I am not going to criticize anyone for how they spend their money. Those who bought the VIP tickets really seem to get nothing other than the ticket. No free drinks, no free merchandise, only finger food. More power to them if they have the disposable income. Me, that will be at least ten shows for that price. |

I think it said they get a free poster and t-shirt.... I am certain I read that. hardly makes it "worth" it though to me.

For $475 a pop they will truly be the "Grateful" Dead.
In reality these premiere tickets are just the bands trying to in essence become their own legalized scalpers. I guess better they get the money than someone else. Still, the economy will catch up some with ticket sales. Both the Arizona and Minneosota football playoff games onyl "sold out" when some local businesses bought blocks of tickets. People can only make a stance with their wallets. If we choose to pay absurd prices they have a right to collect their money |

As much as the opinions are here (and surely on other Dead-related sites) about the 'inflated' ticket prices, the piddly gift bag in VIP, and Warren playin' in the band, the fact still remains that a very large number of people were shut out from ordering tickets because of the overload of the ticketing system.
A TON of people can't wait to see the Dead. Right on....
