Check this EQT tune out. This was them at their zenith at The Whipping Post in Augusta, GA. I believe this album was released by EQT as "You Can't Keep A Good Band Down."

I hate to hear this... hopefully fast43 has a few pics to share when several of us saw Donnie opening for Tinsley a couple years back.

Donnie was a unique character.

Damn...Anouther of my all-time favourites has passed on. Never had the priviledge of meetin' him or seein' him perform, but judgin' by his recorded work, a great one has been lost.

RIP Mr. McCormick

We will miss you Donnie, one of the greatest blues singers ever, and a very underrated drummer. My youth is filled with memories of seeing EQT and having a good time with friends at those shows, not to mention riding around listening to Drinking Man's Friend and EQT on 8-track tapes.

Damn.....this hurts. Had some great times with these guys.

Pretty much locks it up for me that I'm going to the Beacon. While I can.

Saw EQT a few times around 72-73. They were known for playing southern clubs. I saw them in Milledgeville, Ga at a dive out in the sticks that had a gravel parking lot. They opened for the ABB in Atlanta a couple of times in 72, I recall. This is indeed sad news.

Sad to hear this ... I hope Donnie and Bear got their young
bodies back ... and are maybe locked in a groove right now.

Many a night I spent groovin, drinking and smokin' to EQT. Saw 'em all the time. Absolutely wore out Drinking Man's Best Friend.

Thanks for what you gave us, Donnie,

JNB

Sorry to hear about this.

The very first 8-track I ever owned was the yellow "Drinking Man's Friend." Eric Quincy Tate played on a TV show out of Atlanta called "Music Connection" around 1970, and we had them for the senior dance at my high school in 1973, the year after I graduated. I used to see them around Macon alot, but I especially liked seeing them at Grant's Lounge, where the smoke was thick and the draft beer ice cold. Donnie McCormick was funky blues at its best, sitting behind the drum kit with a smoke hanging out of his mouth, singing "I'm a honky-tonk man, and I can't seem to stop."

I saw them again in the late 90s, at a 20th anniversary show or some such, and they put on a great show that night, too. It's a shame they never made it any bigger than they did, and I heard one reason is that they had a 10 year contract with Pat Armstrong they couldn't get out of, and that kind of shut them down, having to share everything with him.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Donnie. Bear, too. I didn't know he had passed as well.
Those two figure in some great memories in my life.
