WOW! Instant live is COOL WITH ME. Thanks so much to Carol for purchasing the 2 Carolina shows for me. They came last night. They sound INCREDIBLE. Iím now spoiled and want ALL my shows that way. Donít know if can afford it but itís worth every penny. I hope they do more of this.

There has been a lot of talk about the quality (or lack of) on the 02 & 03 AUD tapes. We are spoiled from all the SBDs we have been privileged with from earlier days but I had another thought and these Instant lives Confirm it I believe.

We all know that when DB left the Volume went down. This has to have some affect on taping the shows because the crowd noise is just as loud as it ever was but the band is playing at lower volumes. So my take is that the lower volume compared to the SAME crowd noise makes a Good recording more difficult to achieve. It seems the recent AUD tapes lack the Crisp Clarity of past recordings and they donít sound as ďPowerfulĒ which would obviously be affected by volume.

These Instant Lives solve the problem by combining SBD w/ Mikes that pick up some crowd noise. It is a perfect mix. The Band sounds Crisp Clear and Powerful.

A Great Performance on a bad recording looses something. While the Carolina Shows were excellent performances it almost doesnít matter. The quality of the recording is SO GOOD that even if another show was better the sound quality make these Instant Lives much more enjoyable to listen too.

I am not a taper and may be full of crap but thatís what I believe. If you donít have them get them when they become available. If they donít become available then contact me.

These need to be heard.

thought I would post this somewhere & this looks like as good a place as any...the Dead same-night recordings are apparently mailed out some time after the concert and my deadhead buddy says the quality is poor and the jewel cases suffer some damage in transit, which indicates to me how superior these Instant Live recordings are. My buddy points out, however, that it would also be possible to put a high-quality recording on the web and sell it the same night, so everyone who wasn't at the show would also have a shot at buying it the same night. And they wouldn't have to stand in the rain to do it.
I guess if Instant Live put out any Dead shows they could call it Instant Dead, who knows?
