Just read this part of an interview that Gregg did posted by Lana in Big Daddy's Just want to know your thoughts...

Ross CAT-The rumor mill is churning that artists like ERIC CLAPTON, ARETHA FRANKLIN and BOZ SCAGGS will join in the celebration of the ALLMAN BROTHERS music as well as honoring founding member your late great brother DUANE ALLMAN. Is there any chance during the 40th anniversary tour that DICKEY BETTS will be welcomed back to perform with the band if even for just one night?

ALLMAN-There is no chance that DICKEY BETTS will ever be involved with anything to do with the ALLMAN BROTHERS Band; we’ve been down that road too many times and it just wouldn’t work.

Didn't they say this back in the 70's about performing with Gregg?

Disapointing. It sure seems unfair after all Dickey did for the band. Where would they be without him? What kind of annaversery will it be without him? I would think they could deal with him for one night, just to make their fans happy.

Ok kids, I refused to be sucked into the Clapton/Betts surprise party this year. I'm just happy that Gregg's healthy enough for the run, the run is booked and I've got some of my tickets. After that? If Mickey Mouse hits the stage, as long as he sings "that's swell" in tune, I'm good!

Mickey Mouse? I was hoping for theme songs from Underdog, Mighty Mouse and Gigantor the space age robot!
Seriously, what ever happens at the Beacon it's all gravy. We already have the best meat and mashed potatoes in the world!

Maybe Dickey was just a miserable bastard to deal with on a personal level and the other three were sick of it and had to move on. They all seem to be really happy right now. It's like a marriage. Everybody contributes good and bad and if one person gets sick of the other one being a pain in the butt all the time it eventually ends. Your friends may think you're a great couple and you may have wonderful kids but personally it's not working for the two of you and you have to end it. You won't get back together no matter how much your friends want you to. It just doesn't work. I'd rather have a Dickey-less happy ABB hittin' the note every night than a miserable ABB going through the motions playing the same two sets all year. PLUS, you can still get all Dickey's great music by going to see his shows. If he never plays with them again, I still have all those wonderful recordings to enjoy.

Thats the point, I guess after all the crap that happened, why should they have to DEAL with him if they don't want to. And i suspect there are just as many folks who don't want to see him on stage with the band as those who do.

From a rather selfish standpoint - maybe this will lessen the run on tickets when the general sale opens up. Having been shut out of the HTW pre-sale and not having an Amex card, I need all the help I can get!

Seriously - if this is all true we'll have some disappointed peach heads. Some others won't mind.

Now what about this Clapton fellow?

That is all well and good but then why should one divorced partner celebrate their anniversary? That's my complaint. To announce "were going to invite everyone we've played with" and then not invite Dickey is absurd and misleading to Dickey fans.
