Was listening to there album Reveal from 2001 and it was some good listening. Also I think Accelerate was a good one from this pass year. Its nice to know they are still going and in my opinion they are one of the best bands to come out of the 80s

I agree, Murmur and Fables are my two favorites... But I love New Adventures In Hi Fi and Monster while Green and Out Of Time get the least spinning of the first 8 that came out.

My son "dragged" me to an October Jones Beach REM concert in 30 degree weather about 4 years ago. It was a great show despite the climate. One of those bands that I didn't realize how much of their stuff I like till I saw them live.

The lyrics from "Man on the Moon" blow me away.

wow - thanks for the link.

there's also a bootleg of R.E.M. "unplugged" floating around that's just wonderful.

Have always liked REM, especially their early stuff and their most recent is good, too!

REM and I go way back. They emerged from Athens in the very early 80's, and so did I, 1977-1981. I'd have to rank Reckoning and Murmur and Dead Letter Ofc as my favorites. Saw them first about 79-80 in the back bedroom of a house off Prince Ave, not so hot that first time.

I only recently saw Inside/Out, a 1987 documentary on the Athens music scene then (on Documentary Channel, check for replays). Lots of the REM guys in there (Michael Stipe w/ hair even!), a little B's, Pylon, Love Tractor, and a bunch of others who never made it. Even GA folk artist Howard Finster. Pretty cool.

REM got lots of play among my high school buddies when the first three albums came out. I honestly didn't "get" them until about the 4th album, and then I heard what I was missing all along.

Love most everything they put out prior to Bill Berry leaving the band. They are back to being a rock band again. Really like the most recent one. Not a classic but it's not an art project either, which some of the post Berry albums became.

I need to see them live again...

Huge R.E.M. fan here.

Their first 5 on IRS Records (6 if you include Dead Letter Office) are all great. Their Warner Brothers material was also great for the most part, but they lost me after New Adventures in Hi Fi.

I have to admit that the new one, Accelerate is a nice return to form.

Think there's enough interest in R.E.M. here for me to offer a couple of vines?

I have all of these, and Monster. It ended there for me. Probably should give them a listen. I'ts been awhile. I have a German label boot called Automatically For The People which is an incredible live album.
