I know there's been talk of Dickey maybe being a surprise guest at the Beacon. If so, there are only a few dates where that's possible since he'll be touring with Great Southern during that time. It looks like the weekend shows are out.

from jambands.com and for whatever its worth...

Speaking of the ABB, in the current issue of Relix magazine, Trucks not only discusses his current release but also places odds that Dickey Betts will return to the stage with the Allman Brothers during its 40th Anniversary run at "even money or better."

Speaks volumes for me, if Derek was indeed quoted accurately -- won't happen during the Beacon run, most likely a surprise sit in in Boston or NY -- would sure like to be there -- you know Dickey won't compromise his tour schedule for this -- it'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds, but thanks for sharing Derek -- bro, maybe a little PM headsup ahead of time?
hmm, maybe the guys will take the stage one by one during one of Jaimoe's jazz gigs, that would be a nice low-key way to get reacquainted musically in a small theatre -- if anyone could pull it off perhaps Jaimoe could, he's stayed out of the way, it seems like anyway, of a lot of the weidness...really liking the new website too bro, may I suggest a little Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers if this ever did transpire, or maybe something from those early Lifetime albums you guys listened to back in the day...
good weekend to All

i bought my tix for the 9th & 10th, all because of the very slim odds that db may squeeze it in. wishfull thinkin. the dates also fit good with my work schedule.

I'm guessing that they'll definitely add the last weekend in March to the run, at least 3 more shows. I think the chances are extremely slim, but if DB were to sit-in, I believe it would be that last weekend....Clapton too.

Sealevel 1/15, reports in Anything Goes that Dickey will be playing Mulcahy's In Wantagh on March 8th. So YES you can see him prior to the Beacon. Right before the Beacon actually!

Do you really want to see FOUNDING BROTHER Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts reduced to special guest status at the BEACON ???? That would be Butch´s final victory....

I love Dickey just as much as the next person. But having said that, the current line up is firing on all cylinders right now and thats good enough for me.

I'll be going to see Dickey at Mulcahy's on March 8th. Gladly, it's within walking distance to my house, and I'm sure I'll have to walk home after spending a night at Mul's digging on some of Dickey and Great Southerns finest sounds. Going to the ABB on Thursday, so It'll complete my week nicely. Been going to Mul's for over 30 years since Mr. Mulcahy himself owned the place. The current owners has done wonders with the place in my opinion, bringing in some big names and very talented Musicians.

Be safe,
John

In an interview earlier this month, Gregory said:

"There is no chance that DICKEY BETTS will ever be involved with anything to do with the ALLMAN BROTHERS Band; we’ve been down that road too many times and it just wouldn’t work."

In the February 5 issue of Rolling Stone, Butch talks about the Beacon, Moogis, the tribute to Duane, and who will be playing with the Brothers, Butch is asked if Dickey would be at the Beacon. His reply:

"It's not gonna happen. We won't confirm or deny rumors - except that one."

I think that should answer the question, once and for all.

I guess Pony Boy with Butch and Dickey hamboning and chuckling at the end of the song looks out of the question , eh ?

It's a damn shame. When I think of the ABB, I think of Dickey. He carried the band more than any other member has ever done.
