Time to start screeching about outlawing guns again. How long will it take for the lefty-do-gooders to start siting this incident as an example of the "crazed gun culture run amok"?

I don't think this has anything to do with owning guns. I think a case can be made on two fronts against the parents. First, why did a four year old have access to a loaded gun and what's going on in that child's life that he responded so violently to someone stepping on his foot? There are much bigger issues here than just having a gun.

Like bigann, I was kind of pondering the anger management issues.
Don't want to make your head explode RBK, but I'm a gun owner AND a Democrat.

I'm not gonna start in with the anti-gun thing but I will say this. The 4 year old's parents should be charged with neglegence, convicted and thrown in jail for such reckless and ignorant behavior. If you are gonna own a gun you have to take full responsability for what happens with that gun regardless of who shoots who with it.

He had access because he was living in a trailer. People living in trailers generally cannot afford a nice steel gun cabinet. They have something handy just in case people break in, and apparently his parents have had to pull the gun out on more than one occasion so he saw that happen and understood the concept of you eff with me I'll blow your brains out. Being young and short he aimed the best he could. (not that I'm condoning Jr.'s behavior I'm just saying that's the how and why of it. )

These kids not only thought they could elope, they even packed and were ready to go. For people who think kids are just kids, they need to think again, cause they seem to have lots of ideas.

I have a shotgun and I've had small children living with me. I don't keep it loaded and I don't keep the shells where a child can get them......and I don't have a gun cabinet. Living in a trailer is no excuse for poor gun safety. Besides, not all people who live in trailers are violent, careless people so it's not really fair to stereotype them that way based on this one indicent.

So the kid is the victim, right? How enlightened. How progressive.

He's four years old. You're for prosecuting a child that doesn't have the ability to understand what he's done and the consequences of his actions? Very progressive thinking.

If the child isn't a victim, then what exactly is he?

Turns out this kid has a long rap sheet, and this was his third strike. (first two were diaper related)

He was attempting to escape authorities today, but his 6 year old accomplice wrecked his car on the way to get him.

Wow. I'm assuming you have statistics to back up this statement.

I don't know what error 134 from storage engine means. My prior point was that people in trailer parks usually cannot afford gun safes or even gun cabinets, and due to quality of life issues in trailer parks the kid must have seen his parents take the gun out of the closet at some time for him to imitate that behavior. He also might have had the babysitter from hell and liked Dirty Harry movies.

Gina, I'm guessing you haven't done a survey of the average income of people living in trailer parks, but your statement is ridiculous. There are many very nice trailer parks all over the country where people of ample means live. We have a few here in Santa Cruz on land overlooking the ocean. I'm pretty sure the folks living there could afford a steel gun cabinet, which you can get for a few hundred dollars. If you can afford to buy a gun, you can afford a cabinet.

I don't live in a trailer park, and I guess I won't, since living there must automatically mean I wouldn't be making any money. But wait, I have lived in one many years ago, and I still drew journeyman's wages, just like I did when I lived in a house.

I usually don't call you out like some people do, but that statement was very uninformed.

I guess the trailer didn't have enough room for a gun safe.
