Here we are in the worst economic climate since the '30s, and some nameless "expert" bureaucrats have decided that because we're driving fewer miles (can't afford to, and don't need to since there's less work to drive to) they need a higher percentage of our fuel dollars to "fund infrastructure improvements" (read hire union workers who'll pour campaign money into Democratic candidates), and BarryO plans to pluck a trillion bucks from the money tree to pay for it... Oh, and while they're at it, there's talk of a GPS-enabled mileage tax (is that Big-Brotherish enough for you?), which will only take ten years or so to fully implement (and how many billions?) Oh, and don't these little fuel-efficient hybrid cars we're all supposedly buying make for less wear and tear on the roads?

You can't make this stuff up...

There's a new $592 million embassy in Baghdad. Priorities.

Write your senators and congressmen tell them point blank if you support things like this you will loose my vote, it is the only way to get their attention, and then only maybe.

Thinking like this is just plain stupid! We are driving less because we can not afford to drive! i cut my driving from a average of 23,000 miles a year to 6 ,587 miles driven last year.

I find it interesting someone would want to blame Obama for the proposed gas tax. He's not even in office yet.....how is he responsible? It stands to reason if people are driving less there won't be money to pay for needed road improvements. Something has to be done. I don't know enough about the problem to comment on the solutions but I know if we're going to contiinue to enjoy our current level of highway maintence money needs to be found from somewhere. I'm thinking the embassy in Iraq is a good place to start looking.

Apparently RBK didn't read the part of the Toledo Blade article that says, "President-Elect Obama HAS EXPRESSED CONCERN about raising gas taxes in this economic climate", and I also hope he's aware that the "worst economic climate since the 30's" is happening RIGHT NOW, DURING HIS BELOVED BUSH ADMINISTRATION.

SCB, you've worked in construction a long time. The $592 million embassy in Baghdad...how on earth can that be that expensive? Can it? That's how much stadiums cost!

Bhawk, I honestly can't imagine how we could spend that much money building a building. I bet the money that went into the actual building is a minute fraction of that amount. Most of it probably wound up in the pockets of people who didn't lift a finger.

So he's "concerned"? Does that he mean he won't do it? Are that incredibly naive?

You're right. Sometimes your ignorance renders me speechless. But I did respond to your stupid statement about rebuilding infrastructure. That's all you get from me today.

And byt the way, there is no "discussion" with you. You come here to act out in a way you aren't allowed to do at home. Everyone here knows that.

I don't know what you mean by "Are that incredibly naive?". That doesn't appear to be a proper sentence.

No, you threw down that first glove of nasty response about a guy's 'boyfriend'. It turns the discourse in an entirely different and unnecessary direction. I know you've got more 'game' than to resort to that level.
