From DeadNetCentral:

The Dead ~ Spring Tour 2009
Happy New Year, everybody!! Hope and change are in the air! So what better way to kick off 2009 than to confirm whatís been buzzing in the rumor mill for some time: The Dead will be touring for the first time in more than four years, with nearly twenty shows spread across a month from mid-April through mid-May! Details will be announced here soon, so keep your eyes on dead.net!

The lineup for this edition of The Dead will be the same one that rocked the house at Penn State last fall at the Obama benefit: The Core Four of Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, joined by guitar monster Warren Haynes and RatDog keyboard ace Jeff Chimenti (both veterans of the 2004 Dead "Wave That Flag" tour). The mood of the band for this Spring Fling is way up, so itís sure to be a great tour!

Dead.net will be your official hub for ALL news about the tour, including dates and ticket info... and perhaps even a few surprises along the way!

So gas up the Tourmobile, get out that really wild tie-dye--you know, the one with the red spiral melting into the purple and green thatís in a heap of clothes in the back of your closet--and start getting into Show Shape!

You know itís gonna get stranger, so letís get on with the show...

These are going to be great and I do hope they let Warren have some real lead in the pack as he has been there and done it all over and over again...

GREAT news the Dead will tour. BAD news is it's in the Spring and no Southern dates except Greensboro and Charlottesville which I cannot make. My most hectic work time with dealines looming 4/28. DAMN IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news. I think it's a great move just having the core 4 with Warren and Jeff. The last few tours had way too many guitars and keys on stage. This is back to the same ammount of instruments as the classic Dead line ups. I hope Warren gets the green light to sing and play the Garcia parts. MSG and Nassau, here we go !!

This will be a big help to post beacon blues.

Maybe Warren could Join Paul McCartney, Ringo and George's son and they can go out on the road as the Beatles....

lol--i understand your point & for me,there is no Grateful Dead without Jerry....but,for those who never saw the GD or who saw the later years when they were falling apart musically(& i know many may differ--that's cool) or those who love Warren or simply, love the songs & that style of music, this is the closest ya get...so i see both sides & LMAO when i saw BIGV's post

the weird thing for me is that Phil & Phriends fill me up fine with GD music & i feel that Larry Campbell/John Scofield(see P&PH live @ the Warfield DVD) combine to give ya a Jerry feel, albeit with a very different take on it....& while Derek & Warren are 2 of my favorite all time guitarists(& i love Warren's singing) i prefer Campbell/Scofield for GD music--all personal taste & if i was still going to concerts i'd probably contradict myself & go see them no one said that one has to be reasoned about music since music is emotional/spiritually based...peace out...

Humor aside... How can Warren Haynes even be compared to Jerry Garcia?...Hard Rock vs. Blue Grass roots...I've never been a Dead fan, so I understand how my thoughts could be interpreted...but to me, this looks like nothing more than using Warren and his crossover audience to boost ticket sales.

i recently saw Warren sit in with Phi & Phriends & he joined Campbell & Jackie Greene(very sweet sound) & he played quite differently than with Mule or ABB--much more straight ahead, but interesting--it wasn't a "hard" rock style he played that nite & it had a sweetness...no,to me,Warren & Jerry are VERY different players with different approaches & directions in their playing & i love them both, but having grown up with Jerry and others, too many too soon gone,i have a deep sentimental connection to their talents...Warren,since he's been with DB & GS,to this day, brings me great joy...i guess i never see playing in a competitive context. In fact,as a long time deadhead i always disagreed with the singular devotion soley to the Gd to the point of booing opening acts of all kinds...just not an open minded way,but it's a free country

sorry i messed up the quote thing--BIGV's post is the last one on the quote that came before my response in the paragraph above man,i can't get this tech **** right lol
