For me:

The Shack..."where tragedy confronts eternity"

and

Lone Survivor..." the eyewitness account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10.

Thunder Below by the late Admiral Eugene B. Fluckey. It's about the exploits of the USS Barb, a submarine he commanded during WW II.

Admiral Fluckey passed away last year. He was most proud of the fact that none of the sailors and officers under his command ever received a Purple Heart.

I Hate New Music, by Dave Thompson

Very funny in places. Skewers many a musician and musical trends that have long deserved a little public ridicule, but in most cases will make you laugh aloud while doing it. The author's center is a bit more English-centric, but not exclusively so. He posits that classic rock 'n' roll (the only acceptable spelling) more of less died in the late 70's, and sets out to prove his case with plenty of examples of what went wrong and when. You may not agree with all of his assessments (I certainly didn't), but I'd reccomend this just for the entertainment value alone. Definately a fun read!

I didn't get any books, but, bought my son The Gunslinger as his intro to Stephen King. Was really thinking I should have gone with The Talisman, or even Cujo or many others instead, but, if he takes to it, he can start with the Dark Tower series and go from there.

My GF loved a Post Secret book I got her.

In that I read about a book a week, my friends and family know not to buy me books for the Holidays that ....."They think I will enjoy"...In all likelihood, I probably won't get to them.

Too Fat To Fish- Artie Lange
I have not read a book in many years, unfortunately, but I read the first 200 pages on
Christmas day the book is very good and it's so close to home in many ways especially
geographicly because Artie grew up in the next town from where I live. His stories are both hilarious and sad. I am far from a book critic but do recommend it highly
