I was shutting the garage door for my wife this morning and heard someone yelling for help. Across the street, my neighbor was waving at me and I ran over. His 82 year old wife lay on the kitchen floor, pale, with no pulse. He'd called 911, so I started CPR right away. I worked on her for about 10 minutes before the EMT's arrived.
They hooked her up, no shock advised, continued CPR, intubated and kept working. They gave her Epinephrine twice and would only say there was "slight electricity" in her heart. I really don't think she was alive when she was taken away.
My poor neighbor was so distraught. His kids showed up to help him and I left them together.

If you are a praying person, please include Mary in your prayers today, and her husband Gene as well. They could really use it.

what a way to start the day.....Im sorry to hear about that, and it sounds like you did all that you could. Hopefully she can pull through, if not, may she rest in peace.

Prayers for your neighbors, Mary and husband Gene. What a horrible, scary thing to happen on Christmas Eve! I hope this turns out alright.

Thoughts and prayers go out to your neighbors and their family, and I'm sure they all appreciate you "stepping up" and trying to help, in their time of need.

Goldtopper, God bless you for trying to help. There's never a good time, but right before Christmas...

Something silmilar happened to me three days before my mom passed. A 57 year old man from the neighborhood was out jogging and collapsed on the sidewalk behind my mom's house. He face planted and had bled from his forehead. Two women saw me and hollered for me to come over. I rolled him over and did CPR and rescue breaths until paramedics arrived...to no avail. He was dead when he hit the ground from 100% blockages of his coronary arteries. As it turns out, I had met him before and had jammed with him (he played saxophone) at a friend's son's wedding reception. I also knew his son, Frank, who is a tattoo artist in town. Frank told me at the funeral home that he was glad someone was there trying to help, even though his dad didn't make it.

The day my mom died was the day of Hugh's funeral. As I stood outside making calls to friends and family telling them mom was gone, the black limo carry Hugh's family came up the street. Frank leaned forward to look out the window at me. As the car passed by, I waved to him and he waved back. I'll never forget that day or that moment.

How very sad. My eyes are brimming with tears, as I listen to my daughters argue over who is going to sit in the front seat as we head out to finish our last-minute holiday shopping. How very lucky I am to have them to listen to right now as someone else somewhere else is not as fortunate to have their loved one with them.

Peace and thoughts travel to those who hurt today.
