An amazing song. The Hendrix box set released in 2000 has a studio and a live version. I would love to see ABB include a bit of Little Wing in one of their jams.

I love SRVs version of Little Wing. It actually causes a welling up of emotions in my chest when I listen to it. This is the best cover of the song in my opinion and this video compilation is a nice touch too, thanx for posting the link.

I hate this song and scathe the the type of woman it was written about.

Head in the clouds, more like a loser from my perspective.

I have never heard a bad version of Little Wing, however the version by Sting is my favorite....

Imo one of the best rock songs ever written.
If I had to pick one version, the original would be it. This cover is a close 2nd.

this is a great version, too

That makes sense then about walking through the clouds.

I thought he was referring to a lover whose head was in the clouds because she is a loser who always creates problems because she isn't mature or grounded.

I looked up the instrumental version of Stand By Me in the most recent Debeers commercial. It was Laurence Juber, who I've never heard of, but turns out there was a link for him doing little wing too. Not a bad version. Not the best sound quality though.

Yes - apparently this and "My Sweet Angel" are both for his mother.

I strongly urge anyone interested in Jimi Hendrix to read Room Full of Mirrors by Randy Cross. Really well done and lots of good anecdotes (like this one).

This thread reminds me that with the passing of Mitch Mitchell last month the original JHE is now performing at the Great Gig In the Sky.

I actually wrote a paper about Jimi Hendrix for my American Culture class and this song is one he wrote about his mother, who passed away when he was young. It makes sense, "a thousand smiles she gives to me free." That sort of unconditional love from a mother.

Thanks for that info.

Iíve always loved this song.

My dad passed about 10 years ago and ever since I always equate this song with him, but I could never really understand why I had such a strong connection, especially since I thought the song was about a woman/lover/girlfriend.

Now it makes more sense.

Love, love, love this song from the 1st I heard Jimi do it. I think Clapton and Sting have done this amazing justice, too.

I couldn't find a youtube video of it, but I know that Steve Kimock does a pretty mean version of it.
I know this because I've seen him do it more than a few times.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure he did it when I saw him the one time I did. It was phenomenal.
