It was almost ufair for the Dead to follow the ABB that day. The ABB were flawless and it brought out some of the imperfections with the Dead. I hope to catch this tour about midway thru, they should be flying by then. Can't wait.

THat was really great, thanks for posting Ang! It was cool to hear the guys up close and personal like that...obviously, the only thing missing was Jerry and Brent. ...I still get choked up about that. You know, that long strange trip could still be going if.....

Some great quotes from the guys here and lets you into their cerebral side...and the art of improvisation.

Phil: "The best thing about music is that it is "infinite". There is no end to it, there is no back wall and no ceiling and therefore you can explore it 'till the day you die!"~

I LOVE that quote! Phil at his intellectual best and really what makes him tick.

Bobby: In the last 13 - 14 years since Jerry's passing I have evolved, we've ALL evolved. But we all still have our Brotherhood, we can still hear each other think. We can still intuit each others moves....but we still have lots of surprises in store.

Nice of words of wisdom from Ace.

I love those guys, they are forever a part of my life. I like how you could see them working out the complex and intricate parts of "Slipknot"...with Warren standing right next to Jeff Chimenti going through the many changes with Phil and Bob. You know, there maybe a couple of guys a bit more suited for Jerry-style guitar out there like Jimmy Herring and Steve Kimock, but it is clear how much they respect Warren and his work ethic. They trust him implicitly. You can tell Warren digs the hippie vibe too! Oh and I was digging Billy's SKB T-shirt! (Steve Kimock Band)

quote:
It was almost unfair for the Dead to follow the ABB that day. The ABB were flawless and it brought out some of the imperfections with the Dead.

Although I was not there, I agree with you on The ABB's performance that day - flawless is the word I would have used as well. I have listened to that show at least a dozen times - It's also on my IPOD. Every song, every solo, every note was performed to perfection. THey did not just Hit The Note, they pummeled it into submission. It is why they are still the best out there..

The Dead had a little rust for sure, long layoffs will do that, but you could tell there was a Beast inside them that was still waiting to come out. Maybe that Beast will indeed show itself next year during the tour...I am betting on it.

Peace

That clip gets me so psyched for the Spring Dead tour. I can't wait for the announcement.

Yeah I know what you mean about getting chocked up. There is a little very small hopeful sign in that video from my perspective.

And I too am looking forward to the Dead tour. With my fingers crossed and a persistent prayer in my heart.

thanks for posting

agree that ABB blew the Dead off the stage that night - they were really on. Still it was still a thrill to see the 4 originals together again. If they (Bobby) will only let Warren play...

Gotta say, Phil is great - maybe his singing voice is lacking, but I love watching and listening to him play. That Phil quote is great, reminds of one he said in "Rising Low" - something like, the music doesn't come from us - it comes from the gods and just passes through us.

agree with EddieP - Billy K's SKB shirt was an interesting choice

As a fan since 1972, I can't tell you the memories that clip brings back..It truly is all about the music..It reminds of why music is such a driving force and source of pleasure in my life. May "the music never stop"....

You know, I was thinking about the reasons for why some people are against Warren in the Dead.

I think, in part, they are a little jealous of how many hot chicks love the guy.

:-p
