I honestly have never heard a Van Morrison CD I wouldn't want to own. I love everything the guy has ever done.

You know this was a topic I was thinking of starting a few days ago, but I put it off. Good to see that a like-minded fan decided to take care of it for me!!

The album that seems to get the most negative reviews from Van's classic era (1968-74) is HARD NOSE THE HIGHWAY (1973). That one features "Warm Love" "Purple Heather" "Bein Green" the title track and some others. Actually it got abrasive reviews. However that's another one I don't understand why the critics hated it. I really enjoy it. The music sounds fresh and inspired. Plus the classic Van Morrison sound is still there.
Any thoughts about this album?

Other favorites: IT'S TOO LATE TO STOP NOW (Live); ST. DOMINICK'S PREVIEW; TUPELO HONEY

Agree on Too late to stop now, the ST. Doms Preview version on it is a scorcher......

I always thought "Wavelength" got overlooked. Here's the title track.

I bought this album years ago on audio cassette. I always really liked it. I especially love hearing Van sing Bein' Green.

Yeah! VAN The MAN fan here as well. I really like the 1994 live album he came out with called "A Night in San Francisco; I play that CD (actually 2 CD's) a lot; it has John Lee Hooker and Junior Wells on it. I also enjoy listening to the 1996 jazz-like album How Long Has this Been Going On; probably the closest to a "trad-jazz" album Van ever came. I also own the more popular releases like Moondance, Tupelo Honey, a late seventies album called
Into The Music and two "Best of" compilations. That's it for my small Van collection. I hope to get more of his music someday.

There are so many great songs by Van.

I have been looking for Best of Volume 2 with no luck. I had it before and someone borrowed and kept it. I like to hear him do "Sometimes I feel like a Motherless child" on it.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Moondance? I consider it far and away Van Morrison's best album.

I have to say I have probably 6 or 7 of his cd's, a few old cassette tapes and wish I had more. Van is a great singer and an incredible songwriter. Buy all you can.

I mentioned Moondance in my first post. You're right. It's a classic; so many good songs (And it Stoned Me, Caravan, Into the Mystic, Come Running, Glad Tidings, etc).

Van is the best, hands down!

Now I would love to read a post from Libby on this topic...

I. LOVE. VAN. MORRISON.

Old stuff, new stuff, he is one of the very best. I have quite a bit of Van in my collection, spanning the decades. Believe my most recent is Magic Time but I'm planning on adding Keep it Simple, too.

Deb - do you have What's Wrong With This Picture? I really love that one. Think it came out 7 - 10 years ago.

What's not to love?

Great voice, great sound. I don't think I've ever heard a bad Van song.

Paging Libby.........

Don't have that one, Kitty - believe it came out before Magic Time. Hmmm....

It's very old fashioned kind of big band swing/jazz/blues. Mellow, yet very cool.

Checked the year - 2003

Van may be my second all time favorite act behind the ABB. I've been fortunate enough to see him twice in the past few years. Great shows....just wish he'd play longer each time.

I'm one of those huge Van fans who just doesn't get Astral Weeks at all. Give me Moondance or Tupelo Honey (or anything 1970 - 1974 live album) ANYDAY over Astral.

There are some great Van live shows available on places like Dime a Dozen, Tradersden etc.

Van continues to add classics to his cannon even if his records aren't amazing end to end any longer. Always some just killer songs on each over the past 15 years. He really only lost me with the spoken word celtic stuff for a few years in the 80s. But overall, he keeps pumping out good music decades down the line. Go Van.

Philospher's Stone was mentioned and that is one amazing "outtakes" album. Right up there with Stevie Ray Vaughn's Sky is Crying album, as far as essential outtakes release.

Quite easy really! He's a miserable, moody cuss who treats his audiences with thinly-veiled contempt.

Appreciate his music? Yes. But as for liking him................
