"There has been no talk of us retiring," clarifies Haynes. "What we are planning on having is a big blow out for the 40th Anniversary, which is next year, and the Beacon Theatre shows are going to be completely off the hook. We are planning on having more special guests than we ever had before, and the rest of the year is going to be filled with more touring than the Allman Brothers have done in a long time. It is all going to be in celebration of our 40th. We are definitely planning a big bash."

I think we all love a good bash!

Haynes offers this comment when asked if he had been approached about joining the fold: "I have only heard rumors up to now," he responds with a pause. "We still don't know if it is going to happen. But boy, would I love to see it !"

And so would I!!

I assume that is in response to the Clapton rumor?

Here's the full quote - don't think it has anything to do with Clapton...

Lest we forget. Dickey was the one that held the band togher after the the death of Duane and Berry. Gregg or Butch never stepped up to the plate. If it was not for Dickey the ABB would not exist as it known now.

I do not think it possible to ever have this conversation without it dropping down, down into a fight about Dickey.

It's like I'm learning about my divorce, you may want to forget all about it, but you cannot deny it is an absolute part of your life.

I wonder if this current economy may change, as in scale back, their plans.
Unless, of course, they tour with the dead? Or they lower ticket prices.
A smaller venue tour would be the best anyway, imo. I don't see the
economy getting better anytime soon and I have scaled back on cds,
htn merchandise, shows, etc... (although HTM merchandise is the shizle)
spending. I never miss the brother, but then again I am not your
"average" or "normal" fan.

If they do tour with the Dead, that would be the nail in the coffin for me. Any show more than 30 minutes from me would then be out of the question, I've absolutely NO desire to hear Bob W. sing.

About the guests...

Is anyone just slightly turned off by the expected "more guests than ever"? The wish list of musicians that runs through our minds makes it hard to imagine not wanting it, although I must say that if I happen to make it to NY next year I really want to see the ABB first and foremost and I'd hope that the guest list for shows I might attend would be slim. Dare I say I'd even hope for a complete show without one single guest?

I've read in the past where others have expressed some displeasure with either the number of guests or with the number of songs they sat in at the Beacon. Bottom line the band can do what they want, just the fact that I'd get to go to a show is awesome and it is doubtful I'd complain. I'm just wondering if you guys think I'm crazy or is anyone else quietly taking all this guest extravaganza talk with a bit of uneasiness.

I am all for the ABB touring with the dead, the beacon run, all the festivals, the summer tour with Ratdog, and a fall tour as well. They can do it all! Why not? Bring it on! As for ticket prices, they better get in line with the reality of what is happening on the street. At least make the lawn tickets CHEAP. If they want to screw the rich for the good seats, go right ahead. Just make most of the tickets reasonable. While we are at it, they should be next years (2010) Super Bowl half time show as well. They would turn that place on its ear. They wouldn't know what hit them. I love the ABB and the more the better.

feel the same way. Guests are great sometime - certainly Ron Holloway and maybe 1 or 2 guests add to the show, but too many can dilute it. I 'd rather hear them really open up and jam.

either way, still looking forward to it
