New thread on the AG , thought I'd get a thread started under Warren's section too. Dates have been posted to the site http://mountainjam.com/ Early Bird Tix will be available Feb 2 . Looks like they are trying to get tixs sold early. They actually had playing card size ad's all over the base lodge on Hunter's opening weekend for ski season ( 11/22 ) cards all over the tables in the cafeateria tables & the bar too. Hope the ABB are the Sunday night headliner this year ( same wish as last year and the year before etc )

Unfortunetly, due to tough economic times I don't think I will be able to do Mountain Jam this year. Maybe I will be able to make it to one day, but not the Hunter Inn weekend fun I have grown accustomed to. Probably the Saturday show and stay further away on the Thruway. It stinks but it is what it is. It will be the first MJ I have missed. Knowing my luck they will have an amazing lineup this year with the ABB headlining the Sunday lineup.

I here you Sixty.....I'm not sure if my crew will all make it this year either. Hopefully you'll be able to make it at least one day this year.

They've had the dates on the blog http://mountainjamblog.com/ since we all got back from MJ IV. Great news about the actual ticket on sale, gotta make sure I have enough funds available. Kind of blew a lot of dough on gigs last year, '09 will be a select few.

ABB on Sunday would be spectacular.

ABB on Sunday would be great. Given the Warren with the Dead rumors, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Dead spin-off groups or The Dead themselves are on the bill at some point as well. Talk about a great line-up if the ABB and The Dead make the festival....Wow!

As much as I'd love to see Warren with the Dead, I'd rather see them on their own elsewhere.

I kinda think the Dead would be too much for the mountain. But what ever gets decided.

I couldn't agree more Angela. I thought last year's Sunday crowd was the perfect size. It was a little too crowded for my taste the year before with Phil & Friends. It would be crazy crowded for the Dead, probably to the point of uncomfortableness(not sure if that's even a word)LOL!

I think the ABB for the Sunday headline would draw the perfect size crowd.

I agree that The Dead crowd could be too much to take. And frankly, I'd much rather have the ABB headline on Sunday night. And good point about last year, the crowd was just right. And I so appreciated mother nature being a bit more kind than the year before. Walking down the Mountain after Phil and Friends was not fun at Mountain Jam III......

Say, does anyone have any suggestions on where to stay for the weekend? I've spent two years at The Hunter Inn, and year one at Liftside. While The Hunter Inn is nice, and Liftside is just way too expensive, I'm curious about other locations. What was your experience in the newer Hunter Mountain owned hotel last year, Angel? Anyone with any suggestions, input, feedback?

The Condo's at Hunter Highlands , which is the housing you can see beyond the camping area , has lots of 1 , 2 , 3 and even some 4 bedroom units that I'm sure are rentted out over that weekend. Though it looks closer than the Hunter Inn , it's probably the same walking distance because the road into the Highlands is very long & winding as you proceed up the hill. With the different size configurations of the units you could rent one of these with a small or large group of people and be within reasonable walking distance. The same could be done with the condo's on the Hotel side of the mountain but those newer units have easier access to the Mountain and are newer so they cost more for obvious reasons. Also lots of homes in the area beyond the hotel side of the hill , which again are within reasonable walking distance. I'm sure there are several houses there that could be rented for the weekend. Money is going to be tight this year and I'm sure even more people would be willing to rent out their homes to take in some extra cash this coming summer.

Thanks for the info., Ken. Last year I noted on my walk from The Hunter Inn that a few houses on the main street had for rent signs on them. I wrote a few down but unfortunately threw them out unpacking on Monday afternoon when I got home. Do you know if there's a real estate agency in town who might handle these things for homeowners? Thanks again....

Gordon Realty - 518 589 9000
Weichart Realty - 800 872 7653
Green Acres - 518 263 5183
Just came up with these 3 using web search tools , but there are a couple of more "local" places I'll get you the phone numbers for in the near future. Gordon Realty has been in the Hunter area for a while and Weichart has lots of signs in the Hunter area right now also. I'll try to remember to jot down a couple of the phone numbers of places in Hunter that I'm more familar with that have been in the area for awile after this weekend and put them in this thread in case anyone else has ideas about house retals as opposed to renting a hotel room for the weekend.

That was cool of you to get that info around for Chain, Ken! That is why I love this place (most times) and keep coming back. There are many good folk, the majority of the people on this site, who would do just as you have.

Sorry to hijack the thread with babbling, but I went with the moment.

Peace!

Good observation, Mudflapgirl. This site is loaded with many fine people. It's indicative of the vibe the ABB and its family bands seem to have in drooves. The world really is a wonderful place.

Thanks for the good {{{{ vibes }}}} guys ! I see plenty of other people on here that give helpful info out or organize Beacon partys and the like and since I'm just a little familiar with the Hunter area ( OK A Lot Familiar , I've been going there to ski since 1987 ) I like the idea of being able to give back to others to help them enjoy a great area and awesome music festival with any helpful info I can give to lend a helping hand.

Thorpe Real Estate 518 589 5481 They have been on the mountain top in Haines Falls since I started skiing Hunter way back in 1987 and I actually used them to rent a ski house one season. ( long time ago too in 1989 or so ) But they spealize in renting ski houses so they probably have a decent inventory of available houses in the Hunter area. I still have a couple of other phone numbers in my car that I keep forgeting to bring with me to work and will post them soon. As noted before , getting a condo in Hunter Highlands ( the housing on the camping side of the mountain not on the hotel side ) is ideal for walking to and from the venue.

I know this post is about places to stay, but being from the south and a fixture at wanee every year I just would like to know. Does Mountain Jam have areas for camping? is the camping limited? and is it included with the ticket price? Is it worth getting a room if there's going to be late night jams on the mountain????????????? Thanks for any answers you good folks have.

Yes, there is camping. There's more details at: www.mountainjam.com

If you can swing it, make the trip north to Hunter Mountain. It's a great festival with many of the same positive vibes as can be found at Wanee.

Breaking news on The Hunter Inn. They are now taking reservations for the weekend of Mountain Jam. Three night minimum stay this year and, as expected, prices have gone up. They expect to be sold out by the end of this week so anyone interested might want to call ASAP!

I just went to the Hunter Inn website and I will certainly not be staying there this year. Holy smokes!!! They want $850.00+ for the same room I paid $518.00 for last year for the same stay. That is almost a $350.00 difference!!!

I had a great time there the last few years, but those prices are out of my league. If I go this year I will have to rough it and stay closer to the thruway in cheaper accomidations and just deal with driving back and forth to the festival.

I'm probably only gonna do two nights this year so I'm gonna wait to see who is playing on the third night before choosing which nights to attend. If it's a Dead related band I will go on nights 1 and 2. If it is the ABB I will go on nights 2 and 3. $ucks to have to scale back but I just can't afford the whole deal this year. The Hunter is nice and the breakfast they serve is very good, but it is not worth those new rates IMO.
