Frank left this world 15 years ago today.

What a shame.

One of the most gifted musicians/composers/performers ever.

And he could hang with the big dogs in politics as well.

Love this CNN Crossfire video.

We miss you, Frank.

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe."

Perhaps the most overused word in the world is, "genius". I can think of no better application of the word than Frank Zappa.

I think that it is a shame that most folks only know him through his use of humor. It's all great, but Frank was also an incredibly gifted composer. In 2009, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra will be doing an entire program on the works of Frank Zappa. As a lifetime season ticket holder, you know I'll be there!

I believe that one day Zappa will be regarded as one of the greatest composers of the last half of the 20th century.
I have to say that I've really missed Frank during the last 8 years.
I'm sure he would have had plenty to say about our most recent crop of politicians and spiritual leaders.
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side indeed.

Very funny guy.

I loved his autobiography, very amusing.

I don't remember the exact quote, but it went along the
lines of:

"Two things. 1) I am not the son of Mr Greenjeans and
2) I never took a sh!t on stage! "

I loved to hear him play guitar !

Frank is laid to rest in an unmarked Grave:

This photo shows the unmarked plot (directly to the right of Lew Ayres). The flowers are centered on his plot

Agreed -- a demented genius, and a genius first & foremost -- what a guitarist, what a composer -- what a poorer place the world is without Frank -- rest easy Mr. Zappa

I miss him terribly. Thanks for the reminder of the anniversary of his passing in 1993. It's hard to believe he's been gone so long; even harder to believe the one show I was lucky to see Frank at was over 20 years ago. I will play some of his music in his honor today.

I was listening to Muffin Man from Bongo Fury when I saw this thread....
I got to see him once, 1981, one of my absolute favourite musicians, right up there with
ABB, Rory Gallagher and Miles Davis.
Thank you Frank

I haven't listened to this yet, but will now.

DZ and the music of FZ has captivated me since I had my first opportunity to witness ZPZ in Toronto in June of 2006. I regretfully never saw Frank.

FZ's music via ZPZ is the first music since my ABB epiphany to have such a profound effect on my listening with such magnitude. I was unaware of the depth of his music, until very recently.

DZ's goal of keeping his father's music alive, was realized with the raised awareness of folks like me.

Timing is everything. I would not have appreciated the music as much, several years ago. It required musical listening maturity on my part to get it. I was searching in vain for "new" music to get into, and ZPZ landed at just the right time for me.

I now am undertaking the daunting task of acquiring this catalogue, but it's a great journey of discovery with each new purchase.

As someone who owns a pretty good majority of that musical collection, I wish you well upon your journey.

You'll find lots of twists and turns along the road, although it does lead to Conceptual Continuity.

My current goal is finding all the 1988 shows I can.

That was probably the best band he ever assembled.

On the other hand, the band with Flo & Eddie were pretty damn good, and funny as hell.

Enjoy, pilgrim.

I am one of those who listened to the " dirty" FZ as a youngster and in later years had an "aha" moment with the real FZ. I am still exploring his music thirty years later. What a tremendous loss.
