I was STUNNED ! ( STUNNED I Say ! ) that on opening weekend for the ski season at Hunter ( 11/22 ) that they had baseball card size ads spread out all over the tables in the cafeteria and all over the bar. I see the early bird tix are going on sale on Feb 2. I know I better purchase my ticket right away to save whatever $$$ I can.

I'm planning on bringing my whole family this year though my wife and son will likely return to the hotel before Mule comes on.

Unfortunetly, due to tough economic times I don't think I will be able to do Mountain Jam this year. Maybe I will be able to make it to one day, but not the Hunter Inn weekend fun I have grown accustomed to. Probably the Saturday show and stay further away on the Thruway. It stinks but it is what it is. It will be the first MJ I have missed. Knowing my luck they will have an amazing lineup this year with the ABB headlining the Sunday lineup.

With Warren being on The Dead tour at the end of April and most of May , I wonder if The Dead will end the tour at the Mountain Jam?? Weir closed on Sun last year and Lesh closed on Sun two years ago. Just food for thought.

I have heard rumors that they are going to call themselves "The Grateful Dead" again. They are saying 6 nights at MSG and they are going to tour extensively. Sounds like a party!

And it sounds like lots of money to party with.

I think that's a mistake. There is no Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia.

Mistake or not, I would like to see someone try and stop the core four from doing it. If they want to I believe they would have a right.

I mean the Allman's do use their name and there are only 3 original members right? Don't say it's not the same thing. Garcia was not any more or less a GD member than any of the other remaining members.

Angela, I think you are missing how unique and special Jerry Garcia was. He was a one of a kind stylewise IMO. Although the 12 Greatful Dead shows I went to were at the end when Jerry was a shell of what he once was I still saw and heard some of his magic and how he connected with the fans. It just isn't the Greatful Dead without him and yes it is different.

Although Duane was the visionary and the leader in the beginning, IMO the ABB was always a sum of it's parts. I don't think that Duane would have been singled out and worshiped by the fans had he lived the way Jerry was and is.

Jerry Garcia is an icon. The first thing you think of when you think about Jerry Garcia is the Greatful Dead and vice versa. As much as I love Phil Lesh and I've seen him live far more times than I saw him with the GD, he still isn't the first thing I think of when I think of the GD. It is Jerry Garcia.

Of course they have the right. They have the right to do whatever they want. But I think it would be a mistake. It is not the same As ABB. The GD ended as a creative band when Jerry died. The ABB was just hitting its stride and have now gone on for decades without him.

Moreover, Garcia is much more the GD than any other member. There's a reason people used to refer to the band as Jerry and the boys. He was without question the driving creative force. He cannot be replaced and it is not the GD without him.

It's just inconceivable to imagine the GD without Jerry Garcia. Frankly I don't think the Dead, even with the great Warren Haynes, is anything like the original GD.

And they wont be because as been said its impossible to replace Jerry Garcia. I like the idea of a Dead tour as I never saw them with Garcia being only 6 when he died and think that The Dead would be a good Mountain Jam headliner. Now how much were tickets last year and does that include camping?

3 day pass without camping was $120. I think it was another $20 or so for camping pass. I personally would not like to see the Dead close because of the corwd it would bring. I do not want this to turn into a permanent Deadhead thing. This would be a great year for the ABB to close.

I agree with Doug on both fronts , 3 day pass + camping was $140 for the "early birds" last year and The Dead closing on Sunday would bring in a crowd way to big for this size venue. If the Dead were to close the festival I could easily se a crowd of 30,000 + showing up for Sunday in a place that should probably max out at about 15,000 , I think the ABB as closers would have a Sunday crowd in the desired 10,000 - 15,000 range.

I'd like to be there and Id like to see the Dead but from what you have said it sounds like the Allman Brothers Band would be a better fit people wise

The remaining band members made a pretty big deal about never using the Grateful Dead name again after Jerry died. Guess I'd be surprised if they changed their stance on this now (and curious - as to why it mattered to them then but doesn't now).
