Has anyone seen Dave Mason recently? He is playing about ten miles down the road from me and I'm seriously thinking about going. How is his show nowadays? Would it be a good way to blow $30?

Thanks...

I saw him for free in Detroit this summer, he was smokin. "Feeling Alright" was totally sick, his tone is great. I dont know if Id spend $30 on a ticket, because for me that is the cheapest part of going to a show

Hey Magodee, thanks for the response! Did he play mostly old stuff or were there a lot of his new songs? The new album sounds pretty good...

I've seen him many moons ago and if he was going to be playing in my area (especially at $30) I would definitely go see him again!

Go for it! Dave does not sing as well as he was once able, but his guitar can still do plenty of communicating. He is a legend. Go!... You'll be very surprised at the amount of great tunes he has penned and participated on...

Lucky you. I was supposed to see him with my hubby 2 summers ago but unfortunately I had to miss the show. Hubby was very impressed and very glad to have seen him. I can't remember what he said the setlist was but I'm pretty sure he did some Traffic stuff. Go if you can. I wish I were going!

Btw, after the show, if you bought new merch you could get in line and someone would send the item in for Dave to sign. My hubby got a shirt signed. Don't know if Dave does that at every show.

I saw Dave this summer, he and his band were great. They played a couple of Traffic songs and some Dave classics. It was about an hour and a half show, well worth the price. If you like Dave, you should go...

Saw Dave last Saturday, was even thinking of putting a thread up about it. Not sure what in the hell BigV is referring to...... I marvelled how Dave hit the note incredibly well. His register has not changed AT ALL. He sang clearly and hit the exact high notes of 30 years ago. It was one of the things I marvelled at, rare for a male singer to not change register over that many years and aging. He put on such a great show, I might even put it in my top 10 I've seen, but that gets hard, it was one of the very memorable at the least. People that say, oh, he's worth 30 bucks, well that is demeaning to someone of his caliber. He has a new, yes NEW album out, more than peacheads can say..... he did a few cuts off it... very good material.

Go?

Not just yes,

HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was lucky enough to catch Dave Mason do a guest appearance with Gov't Mule at Summerfest in Milwaukee a few years back. It was the only time I had ever seen the Derek Trucks Band open for Gov't Mule who opened for the ABB. During the Mule set, Dave came out and played a few tunes. It was a fantastic show. Don't walk, run to this one. He is great. On a side note, the ABB were staying at the same Hotel as us and we were lucky enough to get some auto's. It was worth the 5 hour drive from Indy for sure.

We stayed at the Pfister Hotel. We like to stay at the older upper class hotels when we visit cities we have never been to, it really isn't that much more than staying at the Holiday Inn's. Like when we go to chicago, we stay at the Drake. It was just luck that the band was also staying there. It was very nice.

I totally agree. I saw him last summer, and he sounded as good as ever. Great selection of songs new, and old. I saw a freebie, but would have easily paid $30 for the show I saw.

I was at the show last night in Ridgefield and Dave tore the roof off of the house. Standing O after almost every number, even enjoyed his new stuff. His band is solid, and he has a new bass player who is a sideshow in himself which is worth seeing. If he comes to your town, run, don't walk to see him. Here is the setlist as I took it from the stage -

World in Changes
Let It Go Let It Flow
40,000 Headman
Look at You Look at Me
We Just Disagree
Runnin' thru My Mind
Let Me Go
Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave
Good 2 U
One Day
Only You Know and I Know
Dear Mr. Fantasy
All Along the Watchtower
Encore-
How Do I Get To Heaven
Feelin' Alright

I saw him last year and was second row center. He was excellent and his voice is still very srong but he looks like he gained some weight. I really enjoyed the show and his band was excellent as well. Once you go, you will realize how many great tunes he has done over the years. I highly recommend seeing him, especially at that bargain price!!

At that price it's worth it. Saw Dave last year in Albany. Exce;;ent playing, but I got the feeling he was just doing his job; mailing it in. Little joy or exuberance, no encore.
