SAN FRANCISCO -- Hoping to stay relevant in an "on-demand" and mail-order world, Blockbuster plans to start selling concert tickets at about 500 of its video rental stores around the country.
A three-year deal with promoter Live Nation makes Blockbuster the primary brick-and-mortar sales outlet for concerts. However, since most tickets are bought online, Blockbuster's sales are expected to account for less than 10 percent of the more than 10 million tickets that Live Nation hopes to sell next year.
Still, the Live Nation relationship will provide Blockbuster with a new way to lure people into its stores as more consumers rent movies through DVD-by-mail vendors like Netflix Inc. or buy entertainment through Internet downloading services and "on-demand" features bundled into cable-television subscriptions.

Years ago back in the early 80's I used to wait in line for the best seats and you always got them for the first few rows. I doubt this will happen again though. Ah, the good ol' days!

Blockbuster, which has been losing money, will also get a slice of the transaction fee charged on the ticket sales.
Live Nation is in the process of breaking away from Ticketmaster so it can build its own ticketing channel.

Every time I go by a Blockbuster store, I'm amazed they are still in business. I doubt this shrinking retail ticket deal will do much for them.

And I do not miss the standing on line for tix thing, at all! Not the good old days.

I don't see this as a good deal for either Blockbuster or Live Nation. I can't remember the last time I've been into a Blockbuster. If Live Nation wanted a retail outlet for it's ticket sales it would have been better off cutting a deal with someone like Best Buys.

It was the good ol' days when you were young and hung with friends plus got great seats. Certainly a thing of the past that's for sure!

Considering how bad ticketmaster handles everything and we always loose out on tickets, Im willing to give them a shot. Hey, maybe the Ticket Brokers will now loose out so we can at least get tickets and at the intended prices.
