Michelle Obama to receive $30,000 thank you from the President-Elect

by Meg Massie

She loves her inexpensive outfits from the mall, but Michelle Obama will soon be sporting something much fancier than anything you'll find at J. Crew.

A spokesman for top Italian designer Giovanni Bosco has confirmed that President-Elect Barack Obama is looking to purchase a $30,000 Harmony ring made of rhodium and encrusted with diamonds as a thank you gift to his wife Michelle. We expect the future First Lady to receive the ring in time for her husband's January inauguration ceremony. The gift is a thank you for her support throughout the last two years of campaigning.

One of the world's rarest and most precious metals, only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, setting the price at over $7,660 per ounce -- or about ten times the cost of gold. The ring may be uncharacteristically extravagant for Mrs. Obama, but we're sure she'll find a way to wear it with all her usual grace and confidence.

Um....is the DNP footing the bill?

Did the designer just spoil the surprise and lose the sale? Plus, Obama made 4 mil last year, his gov't salary will about double and he will get free housing for 4+ years. Cheapskate!

I can't say I especially like the ring however, I appreciate his sentiment and I think it's a very loving thing to do. She's been, pardon the trite expression, the wind beneath his wings for the past two years. She's earned it.

First off, its Derek reporting this. His credibility is shiat here. Second, its coming from a blogger. I think we should hold on a bit before this is an issue. Of course, the Obama critics like Derek will find any straw to grasp at and end up looking like idiots. I cant wait to see if this is BS. Im sure Derek will post a subseqent retraction. LOL!

Beyond that, I just dont get why Derek voted for Obama...surely theres got to be a reason he keeps ripping him over and over every chance he gets.

This has nothing to do with Obama. I think he is doing fine and making the right moves, except for the United nations Ambassador pick today. This is about the blatant duplicitousness of his Far Left followers who will and are about to look the other way on things that they would b*tch about if were another politician doing rhe same thing. Not about Obama, as I liked his mention of not only negotiations but use of military power in his mix bag. He will have to use it eventually.

Amazing...NOW you want negotiations? That sounds like appeasement Mr. Chamberlain. How about discussions and diplomacy? Those dont necessarily involve giving up anything.

Hysterical. You flippantly mention negotiations as if you have never thought of this concept before (but think its a great idea) when others have told you time and time again that its important to have discussions with your enemies and you turned around and called them appeasers. Youre a real piece of.. work.

You sure have a strange way of showing it by slamming him over and over again. Are you back on your meds now?

Since Im one of those people you seem to think would care otherwise, I dont. $30k is a pittance to someone like Obama or others equally financially situated. Again, you are focusing on crap, rather than real issues, such as his UN pick. Whats the problem this time?

And the ring story is being completely denied by the Obama camp. It was sourced from the ring company themselves through an anonymous person...gee, I wonder what their motivation could be? Sounds like Dereks credibility is taking another hit LOL. Another attempt to slime Obama using good ol trustworthy RW rumor and lies and another slap in the face to the folks that swallow it. I love it. D

And so what if it WAS true? Big deal. I thought the sentiment would be nice.

Actually, the credibility hit once again goes to Matt Drudge, who has become a real shell of his former self in the past few months.

Indeed. Take this thread for example. Derek declared that the ring had been bought when in fact thats not supported at all. This was a story by the manufacturer of the rings to bring attention to his products.

Unless you can show where the ring was bought or that there is truth to this, its simply another unsubstantiated rumor from the Right. Remember the "whitey" tape for instance? And just recently, Dereks lame lie about Obama getting pit bulls. Even after showing him link after link failing to support it, like a good little Republican, he still continues to lie.

Yeah...it was his banner clickthrough this morning. Moved off to the side now. The Brit press ran the actual story.

Well I believed the story and it didn't sound outrageous to me.
I was thinking, how nice of him to show his appreciation of his wife.
He has the money. He could afford it. No need for public funds.
But, it's not true. I'm kind of disappointed.

So is Michelle. Poor thing did not get to eat lobster and drink champagne at the Waldorf either. Perhaps her alleged anger is justified!

Its his money, he can do whatever he wants with it. I think its a bit ridiculous to pay that amount of money for any piece of jewelry. That is more than a lot folks make in a year after busting their butts at a job that may not be there tomorrow. So with that in mind, I hope he makes better decisions spending our tax dollars wisely.
