Has greed gotten so out of hand that it's worth trampling someone to death just for a bargain? I also fault the stores that create the environment where this could happen. I'm sure that man had no idea he was going to be trampled to death when he went to work that morning. He was probably just glad to have some extra money.

Geez - this is beyond sad. I'm not a big crowds fan so I've never done the Black Friday shopping thing but I was watching some news coverage this morning and couldn't believe the way folks were rushing into stores and/or malls the minute doors were unlocked - many of whom had been camping out or queued up at door for hours! I agree, Ann - the retailers definitely are complicit in creating the aura of frenzy that surrounds Black Friday through the type of advertising that goes before it, the special business hours (we have a mall here that opens it's doors at 12 midnight - to a crowd!!!), etc. But I also cannot see how shoppers could just walk (or stampede) by the victim here. There needs to be some type of security built into these functions and if the crowds are unmanageable shut things down. I realize that Black Friday represents retailers turning those red ledger figures into black ones but this is ridiculous.

I saw this earlier and am completely disgusted. Spiral's correct I'm sure they continued shopping. The decay of society never stops.

According to the article, people not only continued to shop but stepped over emergency personnel who were working on the man trying to revive him.

I kind of look at it like people need to act civilized, instead of a acting like a bunch of bargain hunting fools. There was also a video of a fight over the last X Box 360 at a Walmart. Folks were wrestling over trying to take it from one another...Happy Holidays indeed.

Really, it's hard to believe that some folks go so nuts over a sale.

But then again it's not.

Poor fella, died doing his job. Never knowing he would be trampled by a mob of idiots trying to save some bucks.

According to local news reports, there were hundreds of people who stepped on the man after he was on the ground. There was also another trampling at the Walmart in Farmingdale, NY, but in that instance, the victim did not die.

The people care only about getting what they want for themselves, anything or anyone in their way is just an obstacle to be overcome. They become purely operational. This is what the culture and society have created.

Some people are animals. And for the people now sueing Wal-mart, that is so unfair. They need to find the people responsible. They should not be allowed to trample people to death and get away with it.

Really really sad that someone is dead over something as insane as this.

I was away for a couple of days upstate NY at my Dad's in Rochester for Thanksgiving. I read about this sickening story while I was up there - honestly, I am ashamed to live near where this happened. I don't even live in Long Island, I live in Westchester County - maybe an hour or so away. But folks, the way those people behaved at Wal-Mart is EXACTLY the way I have seen the mentality and attitude around here deteriorate to. It is 100% me first (not me) and f everyone else. Again, I am ashamed to live in this area, it sucks to drive or shop or almost anything without running into this kind of attitude. Up where my Dad lives, the difference in attitude is palpable even the closer you get to there, and the further away you get fom here.

The day wll come soon where I will get the hell out of here and move upstate. I f***ing hate it around here. I know what happened at this Wal-Mart does not represent everyone - obviously everyone here is appalled by it like I am. But it reflects on a part of our society that I have no interest in being anywhere near.

Good news: this poor man who died definitely has got to have a great spot in heaven and is being well taken care of.

Peace all......Happy Holidays hopefully without all the insanity.

Do you think it is right to encourage greed and selfishness? That is what these 5 am sales promote. The message is, we have limited stuff, so if you can get there before everyone else you might be able to grab it for yourself and the others will lose out. It is totally immoral. I am against sales. They ought to sell the stuff at the lowest price possible so everyone who wants it can afford it instead of trying to continue the caste system where there are certain stores the lower echelon can shop in and certain stores they cannot. Why can't there be equality?

I've thought about this a lot and the more I do, the more impossible I think it will be for there to be any prosecution of an individual or individuals in this matter. When there's a crowd that large pushing from behind, the people in front are literally at their mercy. If they don't move forward they would also be crushed. I saw a report a few years ago about a man who said it was packed so tight and the surge was so strong he just lifted up his feet and the crowd 'carried' him into the store.

I agree with Gina that the stores set up the conditions that created this problem. Seems like there should be another way to achieve the same sales results that don't have the potential to cause any kind of bodily harm to someone.

That being said....the woman who was in the middle of that mess and eight months pregnant is a fool.

I've thought alot about this too , Ann... This is so disturbing on so many levels...

All this grand hoopla needs to end over a sale that begins 4 am, 5 am, 6 am.... it's all ridiculous about which "Big corporation" is gonna get the jump on the other store. All in the name of $money$.... To all the customers .. really your not saving that much in the long run .. to pull yourself out of a warm bed to get on line at that hour. Not worth it.. when the sales are usually the same ones they have most of the time, anyway...

They were all seriously wrong this time... The Customers ( animals ) The Store ( for not recognizing the position they put themselves and the risk to the customer ) The Security ( with all the videos surrounding the stores were well aware of what was developing outside..) It's always better to be safe.. than sorry...

RIP to the young man who horribly lost his life...

Shame Shame Shame...

Beyond pathetic. No doubt, most of the tramplers just couldn't wait to put more debt on their credit cards.

I grew up about 10 minutes from this mall. I haven't set foot anywhere near it in ages because of these kinds of incidents. This is the same mall where on Christmas Day a few years back there was a multiple shooting at the premier of the Godfather III. It was also the stolen car capital for a while.

These people are total animals. Were they even planning on paying? Who the F lines up at all hours of the night to go shopping? These are the same people that are probably running their up credit cards and not paying them and then blaming wall street and government for their problems.

This is why people should not be delusional about Obama being able to change this country. We still have packs of degenerate loser animals like this trampling people so they can get the newest toy they can't afford

I'm wondering if many of the people were even planning on paying for anything. I live near this place also. Maybe a 20 minute drive, tops and I haven't set foot near it since I was a kid. It's always been bad news. Some times things like this occur say in a Hurricane Katrina like situation where people are desperate for food / water or people scrambling to get away from danger. This was all for some lousy deal on TVs and other junk. Poor guy, working out there to make ends meet and look at what happens to him. This is the worst thing I've seen in a year of bad things.
