I know that some here have a problem with smoking, but honestly, whats the big deal? This may seem ridiculous to those who dont drink or smoke, but this is how a lot of people deal with bad days....and not junkies or alcoholics either, regular people who need a break from reality for a couple hours.

Scenario A

Jimmy John gets off work at 5:00 after a particularly rough day, wants to take a load off, aka get wasted. So he and a couple buddies go to the local bar and drink drink drink. One guy stays semi-sober to drive them all home, and on the way, they get pulled over. The driver didnt realize he was barely over the legal limit, and was arrested, car impounded, two years of fines/probation/classes/ect. Jimmy doesnt take to kindly to this and throws a fit. Arrested. Disorderly conduct. With two in jail, the others find a ride home and pass out, which happens to be the last straw with ones wife and she leaves him. This is the extreme I know, but you cant tell me it has never happened, or worse. Drunk drivers kill, high drivers get in fender-benders.

Scenario B

Jimbo gets off work after a terrible day and wants to ease his mind, but knows that getting beligerent off alcohol is dangerous. Instead, he drives home, in rush hour, explains his day to his girlfriend/wife/roommates/ect. and tells them hes getting messed up. So they break out the best weed they have, pack like 6 bongs in a row, AND THEN: sit on the couch and watch TV for the next four hours.

Im not going to respond with some weedhead non-sense, this is a serious topic and people dont realize they are brainwashed from the age of awareness, whenever that may be. Health-wise, yes, bad for lungs, for you to tell me? Kills brain cells, and Tequilla doesnt? Bad short term memory with weed, NO MEMORY when wasted. Eyes red when high, eyes closed when drunk. Potheads mumble and carry-on, drunk people scream and get obnoxious.

I love to drink, but if one were ILLEGAL, it should be alcohol.

The thing to remember whether it's a six-pack (plus) of your favorite suds or six bong hits of some killer buds, both are bit a much, especially if done on a daily (regular) bases. Remember moderation is the key to both. A nice mellow buzz is a good place to be, getting wasted is not, no matter how you get there.

I think it's a generational thing. About 7 years ago, I met my then girlfriends parents for the first time at the thanksgiving table... Things were going well when one of Cheri's nephews brought up the fact that someone in his school had offered him Pot. Cheri's father then chimed in about the evils of marijuana and the family holiday brawl was on, at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Wisdom... kept me out of it and my mouth stayed closed, but Cheri asked her father a question that I have used since then. She looked at her Father and asked... "Dad, would you rather be around someone who is Drunk or Stoned?"... without much delay (or thought) he eagerly replied.."Drunk, pot is illegal". Cheri thought for a moment and then replied.. "Drunk people need attention because they get sick or want to fight, stoned people want to watch TV and order pizza"..."You didn't say wasted"...he replied. "Yes.. I did ..Dad, I used the extreme of both behaviors, Drunk and Stoned, I didn't say Buzzed or High"... I found it interesting because his generation, (he was 70).. grew up with a tolerant view point on booze, therefore... Pot was more harmful...

Wait about 10 years.. it will be decriminalized. One more generation.

What's the big deal with pot? It makes you apathetic. The serenity you feel as you escape your problems and there agonizing effect on you may be a benefit, but long term wise, when you don't get as upset over things, you are easier to control because you won't object to things you normally would. The govt. can do all kinds of stuff and you just don't care till they come to infringe on your rights, peace and privacy and make you their slave.

It just won't matter what's going on outside as long as you can go home and get high you don't have to deal with it. It's a false sense of peace, cause the rest of the world is in turmoil, you just are not effected by it; You basically know by intuition when things are wrong but it's so much trouble to make changes, there's risk of failure and even ending up in a worse situation, so it is easier to just get high and not handle it; but you should handle it. Peace can be achieved you just have to make a lot of changes, have a plan and be persistent. Job problems? Get a different one. Relationship problems? Express yourself, tell the other person what you need and want, what is expected of them and if it isn't going to work, get rid of it. Move on. Don't settle and don't stay stuck. Example: you need to lay on the couch and watch football all day on Sunday. If she cannot accept this, you need to think about it, because your needs are not being met. There are some things people just need to do and the other person has to allow you your solace and pleasure, it isn't for them to judge you or your needs or tell you you are right or wrong, it is your need, you are entitled to decide what YOU need. It isn't all that big of a concession to have one day just for yourself to do whatever you want to. Etc.

didnt mean to dissapear like that right after posting, although its becoming somewhat of a trend on here lately.

That story about the driver killing two people is sad, and I dont think getting high as hell and driving is the smartest thing in the world. But honestly, driving after 3 beers is more dangerous than driving high, trust me, I know.

I know, but Im talking about when guys/gals really want to chill out after a bad day. Not everyday is bad enough to want to get wasted, unless your freefly, but Im talking the guys who say, "TODAY F'ING SUCKED, IM GONNA GET WASTED" In that scenario, which occurs millions of times everyday, I would hope they go get stoned instead.

I don't smoke it anymore, and I'm glad I quit. It's something that I used to really enjoy...But, alcohol is FAR more dangerous IMO. Pot should be decriminalized.

Some funny stuff posted here, especially from Gina.

I smoke pot, and enjoy it. Not because I've had a bad day, or need to escape from anything. I like the way it feels. I don't think it makes me apathetic, nor does it make it easy for anyone to control me. I'm single, and my only son is a grown man. My responsibilities aren't as great as many people's. I work as hard as anyone I know, and the fact that I smoke pot has no effect on that. Maybe it is because I've been smoking for so long, but I don't get "f*cked up" when I smoke. I get a nice buzz, and I like the way it lets me see situations from a different angle than when I'm straight. I think marijuana is a harmless flower, a gift from God.

Well said, Santa. And like alcohol, moderation is the key. To think the government makes it illegal to ingest anything you desire into your body, is the epitome of abuse of power. Now, should you be allowed to get behind the wheel and drive like an idiot after 5 bong hits? Of course not. No more than you should after having 3-4 martinis or a six-pack of strong beer. But just as I can choose to have those 3-4 martinis at my kitchen table, I sure as hell ought to be able to spark a fattie on my porch or in my living room....

I agree pot should be legalized, regulated, and taxed, and the money put into education and substance abuse treatment. I haven't indulged in about 15 years or so, and the last time I did was after a significant period of non-use. I did not enjoy it at all. I now much prefer the world as it is, without my perception being altered by any psychoactive substances. Like all substances, moderation is the key. If you find yourself wanting to use any substance to change how you feel on a daily basis, you might want to consider whether or not that substance has become your solution.
