Good band. Alot of people consider them New Wave but are they really?

After The Allmans, The Talking Heads are one of my favorite bands. Stop Making Sense is hands down the greatest concert film ever made, one of the most entertaining performances ever put on screen. I guess they're "New Wave" like they're contemporary CBGB'ers Blondie, Patti Smith, etc, though I think most musical categories/labels are confining and empty. The Talking Heads were art house mixed with little punk. Their first album, '77, is as solid of a debut as anyone's. I'm hoping to see David Byrne at Carnegie Hall in February. Can't wait.

You're right! Did you see his "Playing the Building" 'exhibit'? I thought it was eerily beautiful.

Unfortunately missed that. One of my great regrets is that when they were at their prime I was into my Jazz phase and never caught them at CBGB's. Number one on my wish they would reunite for a tour list; doubt that it will ever happen.

Love this band

Love both live albums, but pull out
"The name of the band .." more.

I'd agree with the New Wave tag to a degree.
Tags become useless and they certainly changed
towards the end of their run.

Second "big" show we did at Rockers.

Tina was on bass and very pregnant.

Scariest concert I ever went to was a Talking Heads gig.

Tina was about eight months pregnant, so her bass was resting at an unusual angle against her abdomen. But that wasn't the scary part.

I was with my ol' buddy Doug, in the balcony. Before the finish, David announced, "This is our last song, so if you want to dance, now's the time," or something like it.

Most in the balcony started in, which was why the whole structure began moving up and down! We were concerned that we'd crash to the floor if it gave way, concerned that if we were smart enough to leave, we'd miss the last song. So of course, we picked the first option.

I talked later with someone who'd had a view from underneath and he confirmed that it wasn't just our imaginations

Love Talking Heads music - always have! Just heard some new David Byrne stuff on the radio yesterday which I really liked. And I'm a fan of Jerry Harrison - Casual Gods is an excellent CD, IMO.
