Kenny Barr was one of the best men I have ever met. My first bass guitar was given to me at age 14 from him on a promise I would learn to play it. Dave Goldflies showed me where to start. At 16 I was joining his band, and playing 5 nights a week while still in high school. Kenny was the older brother I never had. His service to our country was with so much pride. He spoke about it with me many times over the years. I feel lucky to have had this 36 yr. friendship. Kenny enriched my life in so many ways. Tomorrow we will say our goodbyes to him which I'm dreading. RIP my brother. I loved you.

BARR, Jr., Kenneth D. (Kenny) 61, of Fairhaven, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16, 2008. He is survived by his wife Barbara, mother Sarah, sister Belinda (James), and brother Eric (Kym) and nephews Evan and Phillip Barr-Beare and Eric Barr II, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, a great many friends and army brothers. Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, Sr. Kenny grew up in Oxford, Ohio, graduating from Talawanda High School in 1965 and attending Miami University. He was a free spirit and a great entertainer with a quick wit who was loved by all who met him. Kenny performed for years in the band, Browne Road, that played locally and toured states from along the Mississippi River to the Florida coast. He served his country in the United States Army on an extended tour of duty in Viet Nam. He was a Recondo School graduate and earned the right to be a member of the Special Forces Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRPs) and Aero Rifle Platoon. While a LRRP, he was awarded a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Viet Nam Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Man's Badge, and the National Defense Service Medal. Returning stateside he worked at Armco (AK Steel) in metallurgy and quality control for 30 years, retiring in 2007. Visitation for Kenny will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike in Oxford on Saturday, November 22 with a memorial service immediately following at 3:00pm at the same site. The family requests that donations be made to the Veterans Association of your choice.

Wow, he made it 30 years at Armco all of the way to 2007. That is an accomplishment in itself. Bummer he died so soon after returing. I believe I do remember Browne Road as well, and I darn sure appreciate his srvice to the country. RIP Kenny.

Derek, I'm sure you saw Kenny play many times. Browne Road was the house band at the old Rusty Nail on Rt. 27 across from the King Of Clubs. They were there from 72 until 78.

R.I.P. Kenny

I lost an old friend recently. Not so close recently, but still ...

Remember all those good times (and not so good too).
Sometimes it is like watching old family movies except in your mind.

My condolences.

The man carried several badges that really mattered, RECONDO, LLRP, and the one qualification badge that really says it all, the Combat Infantry Badge.

With those, he really could be called a badass soldier.

Prayers for the family, and you too Mule. We've lost another great one.

Thanks to all who read, or posted here. Today was tough to say the least. I saw many old friends who I hadn't seen in years. We all shared some funny stories about Kenny, and tried to hold ourselves together as best we could. Kenny had opted out of the full military service which was offered to his wife Barb. He had told her years ago he didn't want it. He wanted cremation, and his ashes will be scattered at his place of choice. I was asked to join in on the singing of "Amazing Grace". I'm sure Kenny was laughing because the other 3 guys forgot the words. I ended up soloing the second verse. One of the hardest things I've ever done. I really don't know how I remembered it with no rehearsals at all. Some great pictures were on display of many cherished memories. There was a picture there of a gig we played in the mid 70's. It was a concert held on Mothers Day called the Mothers Day Jam. We were the first ones to start the day at 10AM, and Kenny had the idea to play in our pajama's. Maybe we should have made that our trademark as it brought many laughs, and smiles today. You will always be in my heart Kenny Barr.
