Just curious who the Zappa fans are around this place? I love the guy, with Hot Rats and Roxy and Elsewhere probably being my favorite records. Anyone else?

Love Zappa. I own just about all his albums. Was lucky to see Frank and his incredible band in 1988 on the "Broadway the Hard Way" tour at the Springfield Civic Center. Hard to choose a favorite Zappa album. So many..
Sheik Yerbouti, One Size Fits All, Uncle Meat, You Can't Do That Onstage Anymore Series (Vol. 1-6), Make a Jazz Noise Here, Zoot Allures, Shut up N Play Yer Guitar, Absolutely Free, Yellow Shark, Jazz From Hell, 200 Motels....A LOT of good ones. I have to catch up on some of the current archive releases (One Shot Deal, Buffalo, Joe's Menage, ZAPPA WAZOO). Saw Dweezil and Zappa Plays Zappa at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, Mass on Aug. 3, 2008. GREAT presentation of Frank's Music.

With the current releases from the vault, I'm probably a dozen releases short of his whole catalog.

Saw him many times from 1973 to 1984.

One of my all time favorites.

Not only that, but the club I managed in Houston did a show with Missing Persons.

THAT was a fun night.

Love Zappa . I saw him twice in 1980 (Boulder & Fort Collins Colorado) , incredible shows with Steve Vai in the band . Claasic moment form the Boluder show was FZ walking on stage playing 'Watermelon In Ester Hay" - incredible . I also have almost his entire catalog .

I did see ZPZ in Denver and Dweezil is doing his Father proud by carrying on his legacy and
totally smokin' on FZ's guitar solos .

I've been downloading all the 88 shows I can.

That was one hell of a band he had.

I really love the Fillmore East album from '71. The harmonies on that are insane.

Project/Object was another good tribute to Frank I saw I while back. It featured Ike Willis and Napoleon Murphy Brock. Ed Mann was sitting in on percussion as a special guest that night.
From a Billboard article, Oct. 21:
November 25, the Zappa family trust will release LUMPY MONEY, a 3-CD audio documentary. It will feature two seperate mixes of each album (Lumpy Gravy and WOIIFTM), done by Frank himself. It will include the first official release of the instrumental, Igor Stravinsky-influenced orchestral "ballet" version of Lumpy Gravy that Zappa recorded in 1967 for Capitol Records but decided to revamp, adding rock musicians.

A new version of "Cruising with Reuben and the Jets" is also being prepared, while the Zappa Family Trust is working on other projects such as a vintage live album from the Roxy in Los Angeles and a set of Zappa's renditions of the compostions of French Composer Edgard Varese.

Anyone who doesn't have the Zappa Plays Zappa DVD show should go out and get it. A real treat.

Big Zappa fan here, too.

Never saw him live, alas. By the time I really started digging him, his health was already starting to fail. Sad story, that.

My favorites are probably the "shut up and play" series, but I like just about all of it from 1969 on. Not so much of a fan of the first few albums.
