With current valuations, Microsoft must be drooling over the many buyout opportunities in front of it. Letís assume they will not buy Yahoo. What makes sense?

You could make a lot of money if you owned stock in any company that MSFT buys. There are a couple of excellent companies in the Hardware and Software spaces that make perfect sense for MSFT to scoop up here.

1) Adobe. ADBE is a great company that well positioned for the future. They are dominant in software with Photoshop and Acrobat. They virtually corner the market on the electronic written word (PDF files) and image software (Photoshop). ADBE is currently trading just above $20 a share and would probably go for $40 or more.

2) Research in Motion. RIMM is the maker of the Blackberry phone. It makes a lot of sense for MSFT to buy this company. They could be right in the middle of the smart phone market. It could be a good weapon in their war against Apple. RIMM is currently trading around $45 a share and would probably be bought for around $75.

These are two solid companies that would make nice long term holds even if they donít get bought out.

I don't know. MSFT only has only about 20 billion in cash on hand.

I don't know but I wish I had bought Microsoft back in the early 90's.

Me too. Or even a file clerk with the early company ... you know, one of those folks who filed their way to a goldmine on their stock options.

Just did the math...A $2,000 investment in MSFT in 1/90 would be worth around $56,000 today.
