I still can't believe it. Yesterday afternoon i had no plans what so ever. Flying to the States was only a dream. Well, yesterday a buddy of mine kinda came up with it so i started toying with the idea. My girlfriend Connie was very supportive and told me to jump at the chance because she knew this way a long cherished dream. Never thought i would be seeing the ABB again. Last time was in 1991 in Cologne, Germany. And so many
other fantastic bands / artists performing. Another option was trying to see a couple of Beacon shows in march but i was kinda afraid it might turn out into a dissapointment because there's a big chance the 40th anniversary show on the 26th will sell out in a few seconds. So this afternoon i met my buddy Philip again and we gave it the green light. Contacted our employers to be sure we get a few days off and this evening i bought a 2 day pass, booked 4 nights in Asheville and got tickets for a Brussels, Belgium - Atlanta, GA - Asheville, NC return flight. Still can't believe it. So much adreline rushing i think i won't be able to sleep haha. It's 00:05 over here in the Netherlands.

A little question for non-american fans that travelled to the States for concerts:
When i bought tickets through Ticketmaster the only option to "receive" tickets was not by mail, email etc. but through "International Will Call" which means i have to pick up the tickets at the venue. Has anyone have good/bad experiences with this? Does this work properly?

Cheers !!!

Happy Happy, Joy, Joy !!!

That's fantastic! I live 2 hours away and have not been able to go due work conflicts.

You will love Asheville. It's very pretty around Christmastime. I know your time will be limited but if you can swing it you really need to try to check out the Biltmore as long as you'll be in town. It's the Vanderbilt Mansion and about 5 miles outside of town. You won't be disappointed.

Have a great trip and a great time!

Congrats ABBDutchFan!!! You've got an excellent couple of shows to look forward to! Don't know about International Will Call but I've done tickets through Will Call and TM before and have had no problems whatsoever. Enjoy your trip to Asheville and the United States!

Hello Lolasdeb,

Thanks for the response. The Int. will call is exactly the same as will call with the only exception that it's not an option. US residents have like 5 different options to get their tickets but non US / Canadian customers can only get tickets this way.

Hello Brofan,

I saw the "Biltmore" being mentioned a lot on hotel booking sites and Asheville tourist sites but didn't look into it. I will be 4 days in Asheville but i guess i will spend most of the time in the downtown area looking for some day time concerts and pre-jam activities but maybe i have some spare time. What's the scoop on Biltmore? I haven't got a clue so a brief description would be cool. I can also look it up on the WWW of course.

Cheers

Roger

Roger - here are websites for the Biltmore and Asheville
http://www.biltmore.com/
http://www.exploreasheville.com/index.aspx

I've spent some time camping near Asheville in the Smoky Mountains but have not spent time at either of these places. Next time I'm in that area I plan on actually spending some Asheville time as I've heard it's a cool town. You should have a great time!

Roger, it is a French Rennaisance Mansion built by one of the Vanderbilts and at 175,000 square feet and 255 rooms is the largest private residence in the US. Here's some more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biltmore_Estate

Hey Roger ..... I am so so jealous ..... have a great time my friend

With regards to "International Will Call" ..... I have been to the last four Beacons by this method and it has worked fine every time ..... you just have to remember to take your passport to the "Will Call Booth" to prove who you are and your credit card that you made the transaction with and all will be cool.

I understand your trepidation ..... I was never quite at peace of mind until I got to the booth and had those tickets in my hand ..... but as a safe guard you will be able to make lots of contacts from this site to meet up with and if the unforseeable happens I am sure there are many good friends here that will help you out ..... although I am sure you willnot need it .....

Have a great time my friend ..... and send me a recording

Have a great time!!!!! Will call will be no problem as long as you have proper ID. They might also ask for the credit card you purchased the tickets with so make sure you bring that too!!! I wish I were able to make it to that. An absolutely killer line up. You're getting almost all of the ABB family bands in one weekend. The ABB, Gov't Mule, and the DTB are worth the trip alone!!!

The Biltmore is a must do. Do the full tour, its worth it. A lot of the movie Hannibal was filmed there too. Asheville is one nice town. Dress warm.....

Will call at the Civic Center is usually without any problems. Have your id and the copy of the purchase transaction and you should be fine. Glad you are able to be there. It will be an excellent weekend of great music and great people.

Hello B&S,

Thanks for all the cool responses and warm words! Hope to meet a lot of Peachheads, Muleheads, etc. in person. At a pre-party, at the venue or in a bar,

Thanks for all the info regarding the Biltmore. Sounds and looks very promising. But i guess
almost all our activities will be music related .

Also thanks for the "will call" info. Very reassuring. Good to know Colin had no bad experiences with it. ID + creditcard + print from booking info should do the trick. Maybe i gonna shoot the venue an email just to be sure.

Regarding "Flying to the States was only a dream": i meant this regarding seeing my favorite band there. I've been to the States before. Back in '89 (unbelievable it's so long ago...) i spent a month across the country. It was our equivalent of Americans visiting Europe with these "See Europe in 20 days tours" ha-ha. But fortunally with the same language and currency everywhere. Tour included San Francisco, LA, Vegas, Grand Canyon, Tuscon, El Paso, Cuidad Juarez (Mexico), Houston, NOLA, Great Smokey Mountains, Nashville, Memphis, Philly, Washington, Richmond and New York etc.
A month never to forget. Everyting travelled with a Greyhound Bus hired by the travel agency.

Back in 1997 (or 1998?) i visited New York with a buddy. Unfortunally not for the ABB.
But saw Fleetwood Mac at the Garden (reunion tour / The Dance). Was a show on Thanksgiving Day.

So i know which beer to drink (micro breweries, Sam Adams ) and which not ha-ha.

BTW, approx how late does the Christmas Jam usually ends?
Is there a merch stand from HTN?

Cheers !!!

The wrist band table to purchase beer is at the table full of police officers straight ahead as you walk through the doors. The merchandise table will be to your left when you walk through the same doors. If you want a seat, don't waste anytime getting it, and I suggest keeping someone at your seat while your gone.....

One year Govt Mule took the stage around 3am. The sun was coming up when we got back to the motel room. With it going two nights CC wise, nobody knows.....

We wish you a great visit here in the states, and a great show.

What's with the wristband table to purchase beer and a table full of police officers?
Not familiar with these procedings. What's the scoop? Don't tell me i have to give a police officer one of my beers everytime i drink one myself?

What's with the seating? Tickets state "general admission" only but when reading the
order details on the ticketmaster website it states:
Section Row Type
GENADM G2 T-TYPE and: Seats: 247 to 248
Does this mean i have to be seated and on these specific seats in this row?
I hope not.....i prefer standing on the floor. I can't play air guitar while being seated .
I thought general admission meant you can stand / sit wherever you want if not occupied of course. And excluding VIP areas of course too.

Thanks for the feedback & help !!!!!

LOL - In the states drinking age is 21 so at most concert venues there is a table or booth where ID's are checked and wrist bands given. You must have a wrist band when you purchase beer from the food/beverage vendors.

Congrats on the trip.Asheville is a wonderful town. I suggest you explore the surrounding mountains some. The southern Appalacians are beautiful. As to the Biiltmore it's an American copy of what there are hundreds of the real thing in France.
The admission fee is also hefty.I paid $45 two years ago.Why not buy a piece of original art at one of the many galleries
in town instead? Or just go out and have a nice dinner. As we say down here "welcome south brother"

Ticketmaster issues you a "seat number." It is a counting system for the allotment of tickets. With a show that has reserved seating, every seat is accounted for. Since there is not a set total amount of seats for a GA show, ticketmaster sets up this tracking system so the show is not oversold per the capacity of the building.

So you will be able to grab space on the floor for your air guitaring.

We'll be there and I hope to meet up with you during the xmas jam festivities
