Funny you should say that, Sue, because I feel that way sometimes when I see certain setlists. Every Mule show is a good Mule show, IMHO, but I agree that sometimes the setlists seem stacked with my favorites, then other nights I am not upset in the least that I wasn't there at that show.

Another thing, though, is that even though the setlist looks stellar, sometimes there is technical difficulty, or the mood of the crowd isn't all that great. Lots of things can change an evening, ya know?

But I love me some Catfish Blues!

I could hear that one a few hundred more times. No problem.

The air was thick with indifference and despair. I watched the rain hit the pavement and slowly stream into the gutter. I couldn't do anything about it. I was helpless and hopeless and so deeply sad that I would have preferred to roll up into a ball and die. I wanted to shake up the malaise but it was too thick like the dark fog rolling through chilled mountains. It had permeated the blood and the mind and controlled the heart.

I heard a sweet narrative off in the distance. It was too soft and everyone who heard it feared it would turn things up side down.

But I knew the alternative was to be lost at sea with the storm raging over the sea wall. With the storm rolling over the hills and houses and engulfing the soul. The levee has broken. Where is that darn bridge?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This show was the worst show I have ever witnessed Warren do. There wasn't even a stamp on the letter.
Could your mood have affected your view of the show?
My mood was fine until after drums.
Drums was the highlight of the whole show.
Yesterday was the worst mule show I ever witnessed.
Tough on the outside and tough on the inside.
No redemption.
Meanwhile, a guy on the phil zone thinks its the best mule show he has seen. My brother thought it was another Mule show. I won't ask why your original post looks like jessicA hacked your account.
Angela,
Why was it the worst? The playing, singing, what?
I agree with you Susea that this would've been a good set list for CT.
That's amazing considering how awesome you thought Saturday's show was. I see a decent amount of shows compared to most people I know. I have seen Mule 9 times in the last calendar year. I know that is nothing compared to you and a lot of others. I think I myself could not handle that many shows. I would begin to get jaded. As it is, except when I see them back to back in multi-show runs like Mountain Jam, I go months between Mule shows. So each show brings a new excitement for me. That's just me. But I guess the point is that the more you go, the more criticially you will be able to assess each shw and the more likely you are to experience one of the lesser ones (as well as greater ones)
Doug
Great post Doug!!! Exactly how I feel. I wouldn't want to go to that many shows of one band. I see Gov't Mule an average of five or six times a year and some of my friends that don't go to shows consider that a lot. I love Warren and the Mule and don't want it to ever get stale. It hasn't gotten in the least bit stale yet. My last show was at the Stone Pony in late July and my next is the Hammerstein shows and I am chomping at the bit for five smoking sets of Mule!!!
I have a very different perspective from most.
I can't even type anything else but to say I am in utter and total despair.
It has nothing to do with Jorgen. He is great for the band and will help to move things forward. I have no doubt on that front at all.
Well bluntly Ang, you are making no sense. I have seen any number of awful shows in my time, and certainly would have never walked out a show in utter despair. It all seems quite silly to me. But whatever, to each their own.
I think Angela is just having some fun mocking jessicaA. Unless jessicaA got a hold of Angela at one of the last couple of shows and took a bite out of her. Watch your necks at future shows people!!!
My first Mule show, and I'm hooked now. It was incredible!
I don't know Angela, but she's wrong, it was flat out amazing!
I was on the stage smack dab in the middle for pretty much the entire show, got around 15 minutes of video and just had an all around amazing time!
re: the weather, I was actually pretty nice out, a little chilly, but it wasn't raining.
You know, It definitely was me. I've been having some blood pressure issues and have had 2 different medications in the last 10 days. The first one I got bad side effects from and maybe the second one too. I think they are playing a number on me. It was right after Catfish Blues. Maybe my blood pressure dropped, maybe my sugar level dropped, I don't know. Kings Highway put me in a morose mind set. The jam out was weird and spacey and I don't really like I'll Be the One and things started to sound really fake and rehearsed. It must be the medication. Then with Soulshine it was too much. It was me totally. I shouldn't have gone to that show and should have just gone home after the CT show and rested for the work week.
The band was great as they always are. They must have been a little tired and I must have picked up on the vibes as they have traveled quite a bit this tour. My not feeling well must have taken over.
I really loved the majority of the show and the shows this weekend. I love Jorgen and of course the rest of the guys and crew. It was definitely me not feeling well.
Hey Ang, you've got to take good care of yourself. It's hard when your body adjusts to new meds and it really takes weeks for things to settle in especially if you had two different blood pressure meds in less than 2 weeks. It was an off night for you and that's OK. It'll be better the next time!
