Well I see scammer are already out trying to "rip" people off. This is one I got today in my e-mail. Notice they are pretendiing to be the IRS (on the email, it had the the official IRS symbol at the top). Notice the very short deadline to fill out this information (November 9 which happens to be today a Sunday (guess the scammer doesn't won't people calling to check whether or not this is real). Notice also they are "phishing" for someone to post information that would allow them to make a "direct deposit" to your checking/saving account (of course, it's more likely one would be seeing a "direct withdrawal" from said accounts). Truth is, the IRS notifies people through the U.S. Postal Service, and not through the internet. I know most of you already know this, but nevertheless there might be some that don't or maybe some of you might have family member that might be receiving this "bogus" IRS mailing and might be tempted to give out information in regards to their "checking/savings" account. One thing for sure, in these tough economic times, you can be sure to see a lot of these types of scams. Be careful, and be aware.

In addition to the IRS never using email, the copyright language telegraphs bogus. There is no need to protect gov't messages and forms as intellectual property.

Thanks for posting this, CUH. I deal with a lot of these and you might be surprised (or maybe not) as to how many people think these things are real and just offer up their information for the taking. Sad.

While we're doing that scam thing, I thought I'd mention one, that while completely legal, is a very bad deal. I got a mailing from National Deed Services, where for $59, they will get you a court certified copy of your Warranty Deed.

If you misplace your deed, you can get your own copy certified by the local clerk for about $3(GA price). Moreover, it's recorded so you're covered anyway, so there is little need to have an official copy or even a regular copy, even when you go to sell (the title examiner can do a search by ownership name, address or tax parcel #).

I wouldn't give them that info, they could withdraw the $10.5 million I have coming from the Finance Minister of Nigeria.

Hey Ron,

That $10.5 million, was promised to ME. don't know how you got in on the deal. Hell, I'm already researching properties that I intend to buy with that money.
