So I happen to also be a huge fan of Duran Duran, I can't help it, I grew up on their music, and I was wondering if anyone else here is a fan and If you are if you have seen their new DVD that Chronicles their album Rio, I hecka wanna buy it but I gotta wait til I get paid, which always sucks. I saw the clip on youtube and it looks really good.

I have the same name as one of those fellows. They use to wear it out on MTV back when MTV was good.

I also came of age in the 80's, but for us it was Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, not Duran Duran and Wham.

So, um, No.

Imho, the music from the 80's was dull, listless and built around dance.

I also fit into that category, however, I kept up with the bubblegum side of the 80s as that was the best way to talk to girls.

Duran Duran - Kings of Early MTV - saw that Rio video a million times. One of the rare scandalous things one could acquire at the time was the uncut video of "Girls on Film." I actually saw them at the peak with my 8th grade girlfriend - the Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour. I cannot believe I remember that!

Around that time Nick Rhodes made his infamous statement, "We're gonna be bigger than the Rolling Stones." Um, yeah.

Musically, however, the related act, supergroup Power Station blew D2 away, IMO. I could talk 80s music all night long.

Because they are terrible.

I'm sorry but I had to. You made it too easy.

Women in the videos was the only redeeming factor IMO.

Don't worry about it, at least we liked them...LOL !

Really, what does it matter what anyone else thinks. All the matters is YOU liked them.

Your better off not posting about New Wave or Punk here.

There is only a handfull here that liked that kind of music.

You want to talk about bands from the era, give me a PM. I'll be glad to talk about em' with ya !.

Not being offensive, just telling you the truth.

Kenny

You are turning to damn PC on all of us.

The truth is that a site for the ABB is not a real good place to expect a huge Duran Duran fanbase.

Like what you like. I am sure that we all like stuff that others don't. Won't make me stop listening.

But when posing the question about Duran than you have to expect some comedy and abuse.

I have a "20 year rule."

Certain bands were popular 20 years ago which I ignored back then. After all the hooplah died down and the band was just another distant memory, I'd then have the green light to actually check them out, see what songs are actually good and consider getting a few albums or downloads. Duran Duran was one band I do remember during their popular peak. I did see their videos on MTV and was familiar with their hits such as "RIO" "THE REFLEX" "NEW MOON ON MONDAY" and "UNION OF THE SNAKE"

However I never bought their records and sort of ignored them when they toured the USA and were "the next Beatles". But twenty years later I did start to explore. Not everything in the Duran Duran catalog was impressive (that early 80s sound and style was a bit thin) but I still liked many of their songs and hence, they are on my ipod now.

Once 2011 comes around I actually plan on checking out NIRVANA's music but three years is a long time away.............

They were an ok band to me back in my new wave phase. Not enough to buy any records or go see them, but some catchy tunes for the day. Hey Kenny, remember the 688 used to play Girls on Film on the big screen before shows? Wowee!

Thats what I was saying, that not many people here would like Duran Duran and that I would be glad to talk New Wave...really with anyone.

Not to say I never have, but in general I try not to abuse(comedys fine) anyone about what they like. Since I like most of the new wave and punk stuff I have no reason to.

As far as being PC, no i'm just honest and try to be good to people (even Dean and Spiral..LOL !). I know I do act like a jerk sometimes, but thats because I suffer from Jekyll and Hyde syndrom.

Your always cool with me Brother Mule.

We all have two personalities at times. Neither of mine like Duran Duran.

The bad hair, bad music and hype sent me running.

I have met Andy & John Taylor over the years and both were pertty decent guys from what I could tell. Preferred Andy's work outside of Duran Duran.
