When I was a little boy, I used to use a broom to pretend I was playing guitar.

My Grandma worked at a cotton mill, so I used to use to old thread cones to pretend I was playing a horn.

Pots and Pans were drums.

I would also put one of the cones on a broom handle and that would be my mic and stand,

I would also use those little plastic guitars also.

Music I jammed too back then. Most of the albums were my Mom's.

The Animals
The Beatles
Dave Clark Five
Bill Blacks Combo
Little Richard
Fats Domino
and Grandma's Country records.
Plus all the "45" records we had.

Any of you do the "Pretend" thing ? I'm sure some of you could play "for real".

I still pretend, even when there is a real one in my hands.

I used to get in trouble playing the pencils at school, fork and knife at home and a tennis racket made one hell of a fine axe.

Yes, I used a hockey stick. My air guitar on Hotel California would make Joe and Glenn quite proud. I also used to air bass on Rush tunes...and that's why I got a real bass at age 14.

Only in America, only at JFD can a normal average guy get so many women to pay and eat his meat for a worthy cause.

I still pretend. You should hear me on table timbales and lap piano. In addition to being proficient with my instruments I do some pretty mean hairbrush vocals. My serious foray into make-believe musician began with the Beatles (although I could sing and dance pretty well with some of those girl groups of the early 60's - Shangri La's were a favorite, Supremes and all those fine Motown queens, Leslie Gore, etc). And I did play clarinet and piano while walking on earth.

I have friends who are in bands and always enjoy singing backup and playing a number of percusion instruments (including real timbales) when we have jam parties. And have been known up to get up with bar bands (when I know members) and do some singing and shake a tamborine (or play some more cowbell )

Always had a piano in our house - so we banged on that until we were MADE to take lessons. Now I love it - not that great at it, but love piano music. Also used to play air guitar, air drums, and use the famed hairbrush for a microphone!

My next door neighbor's grandaddy cut the shap of guitar out of plywood and gave us each one, we drew the strings, knobs, etc... on there witha black marker, it was great, nice memory. Thanks as usual Kenny!

instead of paying attention in grade school,i'd sit there building a stage out of notebook paper...then i'd past together 4 long haired type guys with 3 paper guitars & the paper drum....then,i'd paste the "musicians" onto the stage & paste them on their guitars--i pasted the drummer on a tiny paper chair
