I was thinking how hard it must be to play drums and sing lead vocals at the same time.

I don't know if many bands did this.

Rare Earth is one.

Can you think of any others ?

The time I saw Genesis, Collins was more front man and less drummer. Many songs he was out front and I think, Chester Thompson drummed.

Rusty,

Dave did sing some lead vocal songs, he was not the main singer. Although in this thread I'm looking for any drummers that sang lead.

But I was reading how Dave was front and Center on stage most of the time. Because it was his band.

Hey Kenny. I had a couple of DC5 albums when I was a kid. Except for on TV, I never saw them perform, but I can't think of any songs that Dave Clark didn't sing. Can you help me out here?

NEVER MIND!

(From Wikipedia): "Lead vocals were provided by Mike Smith, who also played the keyboards. The rest of the band was Lenny Davidson on lead guitar, Rick Huxley on bass guitar, and Denny Payton on saxophone, harmonica and guitar. Songwriting credits went to Clark, Clark and Smith, Clark and Davidson, and Clark and Payton. Some early songs were credited to Clark and Ron Ryan, who was the brother of early group member Mick Ryan."

I guess I just didn't pay attention as a 9 year old!

Didn't Mickey Dolenz sing some of the Monkee's songs?

I don't even know if they count as a real band.

i think ginger baker did 3 lead vocals while in cream but he also did a few tunes in the band "baker gurvitz army"

anyways i think people named most of the drummers who sing lead vocals but didn't carmine appice sing some in all of the bands he was in? also peter criss from KISS and then for that matter eric carr and eric singer after peter all sang.

Sang harmony on some Nirvana tunes, no?

Actually, I just noticed that ODR asked about drummers who were lead vocalists. My bad.

Can't be any more annoying than Keller Williams....saw him at the Beacon opening for Gov't Mule.

Rusty,

Thats cool, I was not trying act like Mr. Know it all..LOL !

I jammed on the Dave Clark Five like I did the Beatles. I was around 8 years old. I used to get a broom and pretend I was playing guitar..LOL to their songs.

This is the album I had :

Yes, but Phil Collins is always the drummer on the studio material. Even when he was the lead vocalist as well. And he still drums live in concert, just not for the whole show. He was the drummer before he was the lead singer. In fact he is excellent at singing behind the drums, but they didn't feel it was right to not have a "front man".
