Just a reminder to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night!

I hate this change. I wish we could stay on daylight savings time year round. It makes it difficult for my son to now wake an hour earlier for school and get on his bus in total darkness which is more dangerous in my opinion. It is also nicer to have some daylight until 7PM. Who is the genius that decides we should change? If given a choice, am I the only one who feels this way?

It's more light in the am after the change back. Darkness at the bus stop was a main reason why permanent DST was ended after the energy crisis of the late 70's. I'd be fine with standard time or DST, just pick one

He gets on the bus at 6AM. It is never light now, but this knocking him back an hour puts him in pitch darkness in the rural area I live in. I remember when we started the change, and it was about the bus stop, but I guess it was for smaller children. I agree on picking one.

Thanks for the reminder - and especially the reminder for smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. I always remember, but my Mom does not.

So, Saturday evening with the DTB in Peekskill, NY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!

A fun night of partying down and good music and spending it with my brother will be most excellent. The extra hour will be nice for a 10AMm sunday round of disc golf in Mt. Kisco, NY.

Sigh.

It will get dark earlier.

In the morning it will get light earlier.

Believe me, as a bow hunter I know this all too well.

More daylight in the early morning to hunt.

Less time in the afternoon before dark.

I think you are a bit confused. However light it is at 7, that's how light it will be at 6 next week. Your current 6 AM darkness will now be 5 AM.

You're right otie, it confuses me every year. It will still be dark for my son, but I want the evening light. DST year round is what I want.

Move to Arizona. They stay on Standard Time all year.

Arizona is out. My ex is from Phoenix.

She has four (big) brothers...

Yeah, and I hate the lost hour in the Spring. But I do prefer DST, I don't like it being dark before suppertime

One extra hour of last call.

The owners of Rockers used to set the time clocks back as well so they got a free hour of work from everyone.

Except for those of us who were wise to them.

That practice ended when I became head bartender.

I don't like the lost hour in the spring, but I do like the extra hour of daylight in the evening then.

Being someone who never has enough time I enjoy the extra hour thing but anyway you look at it when this time of year rolls around it seems to be dark going into work and dark coming home from. I did hear on the news today that 'Fall Back' has been proven to reduce the risk of heart attack ...

I lived in IN for a year and back then, they stayed on the same time all year. I loved it. It was more natural and makes sense. It always throws me off. - I always feel like we should adjust to nature! Not try to change it the other way around.

At least according to the research I did back at the time, DST was not created for school buses or transportation, which is what people always seem to snap back about, but was for energy conservation, particularly with incandescent lighting in the early 1900's. Actually I believe there were some other non-transportation related issues as well.

Again, I don't know why we just don't say, okay work starts at 7:00 in the summer and 8:00 in the winter or whatever...

My reference to the school bus thing was the argument for coming off year-round DST, not its institution year-round, which was an alleged energy-saver. I think Ben Franklin first came up with the idea. But I agree, just start work early in the summer, and the sun will take care of the rest.

Indiana now uses DST. Years ago when playing music in Oxford OH , we were 2 miles from the Indiana border. When our night playing was over, we would rush over to Indiana as quick as we could to have an hour of drinking time.
