Gregg Allman
7/1/83 Uncle Sam’s Nantasket Beach, MA.

"Nice show complete with horns. Three songs are cut but what’s there is well worth it. Gregg is very upbeat and animated throughout. Nice versions of Queen Of Hearts, Sweet Feelin’ and an over-the- top Matthew’s Arrival which is difficult to find without cuts. One disc needed."

There you have it. Another one of Coot's treasures!

"Accesible w/ limits" B&P. Here are the rules and you MUST abide by them. Sorry to come off as strict, but this eBay problem is getting out of hand and precaution is necessary.

1.) You must have traded, or completed a B&P with me before (either side of the transaction)
2.) You must keep a detailed log of who you share this show with and keep me informed with who you send it to.
3.) You must have over 100 posts. Sorry newbies and even to the occasional posters, that's just the rules for this particular B&P.
4.) Leave me your e-mail address AND You must e-mail me when you receive it.
5.) You must thank Coot (if not done so already) for sharing his shows and for giving us the opportunity to hear some of the best tunes out there!!

With that said, Count Off! #5 close the door. PM me and follow the rules!

Send B&P to:
Jeremy S.
15 Donna St.
New City, NY 10956

Thank you and enjoy!!!!

-Jeremy

Sigh ......

Best intentions, bad policy.

Let's see:

#1) Yup, I qualify on both counts.

#2) Ain't happening. No way no how. See phillybob's post above.

#3) 100 Posts?? Don't mean squat. Pick a thread, any "newbie" can run up 100 posts in 10 minutes if so inclined. Don't get me started on that again. Might as well restrict the offer to folks registered for a year or more. Get rid of the "newbies" all together.

#4) That's cool, good policy anyway.

#5) OC is the man. Never any doubt on this end.

Yes, E-bay is a problem.

This is supposed to be fun. Count me out.

(My OPINION. Don't like it? Ignore it.)

Well I don't see how this can't be fun but that's your opinion and that's cool. I offer shows for everyone. Newbies to oldbies. I made up these restrictions in responce to Coot's new way of doing things. I think it's fine. Still one more spot left..

Also, these rules only pertain to this B&P only..

WBTF,

I understand there is a "new way of doing things" floating around here. Sorry to pick on your thread. I have the utmost respect for the folks who are trying to curb the e-bay menace. I understand the intention but don't agree with this method.

"RESTRICTED" B&P. Enough said.

Us "experienced" traders need to take a second and remember what it was like starting out. Good luck getting that collection going in the future.

My idea of fun isn't keeping detailed logs to send to you or anyone else, no offense.

I'm probably just crabby tonight cause the Sox got their butts kicked by Texas. Anyway ... Peace.

"Restricted" is just a word in quotations. I could have used the words "Fruity Pebbles." It's insignificant. I know everyone who starts out is a newbie, that's why I give out freebies to newbies and start regular B&Ps for everyone. This rule just goes for this particular B&P and if it gives people one less thing to worry about; in terms of shows getting on eBay, so be it. I'm trying to help everyone.

You you don't stop bootlegging by making the show harder to get...only makes it more valuable. As any "expeirienced" trader knows, you slow it down by sharing, sharing, sharing! If you want to keep a show low key you send it to a few close trading buddies and ask them to do the same, you don't offer it up on a public board in a "restricted" b&p. Don't mean to ruffle any feathers but this just ain't cool as any "expeirienced" trader would know.

Well said Cecil & JCB. no offense here, but I give more credit to the people on this board. just my opinion. don't get me wrong. I am all for getting rid of so called "ebay scum". and if old coot wants to put restrictions on his stuff, then that is fine, but...as JCB says, numbers of posts don't mean squat. share the music...yes... not much point trying to sell a show on ebay when there is no market for it. hey?

Well, honestly not to open a can of "proper trading" worms here, but there is a distinct, at least to me, difference with the show WB2F is offering.

The source is me. If it shows up on ebay then my hope is to be able to identify the rat among us.

To those who say spread it all around and reduce the market, how has that worked with the commonly traded shows that show up on ebay and people pay large dollars for?

Shortly after Captain Skipper remastered 4/6/73 there it was on ebay. Neither of us do this so some knothead can make money. If it continues, does the band's policy of open taping? You tell me, I don't know.

The other alternative is for me to stop circulating shows that are not commonly available. In that scenario, no supply, no demand.

I'm not going to make it easy for people to unlawfully sell these shows, the only entity that should ever make a penny from a sale is the artist themself (ves).

Thank you for helping, Jeremy.

I just pitty the poor suckers who are paying for music they could actually get for free right here. If something I trade end's up being sold I will not take blame for it and It would not stop me from trading or helping others.

You know what the true irony of this is? Old Coot doesn't have 100 posts. He wouldn't even be eligible for this. I just thought that was funny. Tryin' to keep things light.

Feel like I need to add my opinion here. Hey, the principle is solid (attempting to deter bootleggers)...You do not want to have your shows show up on Ebay. I think the point of you or anybody offering up "restricted" offers is simply not productive and is detrimental to the mission of this Board in my opinion.

So you have not traded with me before; so you will not make a show available to me. Well in that case, I will blacklist you....in response to any of my offers.....for example..Where does this lead, to a very fragmented and un-friendly situation. Bottom line: Not productive to spreading, trading shows. Since one offers up shows, I would imagine that you want them out there. Does it hurt. cause anger that they end up on an auction site: Yes I am sure it does. However, you also cannot hold the ocean back with a broom.

I might suggest you simply make a private offer via the PMs instead. If you want to ensure that the original show copies never turn up on an acution site, DO NOT TRADE THEM. Even bootleggers bootleg each other. You can find one person/company that puts out a boot which is great & gets around a bit. Others hear it and just copy it themselves.....

The Genie is out of the bottle....Spreading hard to find shows is very generous of you or anyone else out there who does it. Having the shows turn up on boots for sale is the dark underbelly of circulating hard to get shows. It is unfortunate, but I still stick to my original premise. If this is completely intollerable to you, then do not circulate the show (to the loss of other traders)....

Some very good points are being made here on both sides of this issue. I can tell that some very cool trading folks are trying to work this one out. When you look at it closely though, the wording might be a little different, but the end result will be pretty much the same. Five people will receive the B&P, and they will in turn distribute it among the forum members.
Yes, OC has some concerns, and I can understand these concerns. Since we are a community of friends, then we should all work together and do our part. Guys, I have been attending shows since 1970 and have been taping since the mid 80's. I have always shared with my friends and also helped newbies get started. I never thought anything about it, in fact the friendships that developed and trading partners that came from this, caused me to keep getting deeper involved in the live concert scene.
Their was an incident last year that caused some turmoil in my inner circle of traders, where a master showed up on one of those import labels (not an ABB master). It wasn't my master, but a very good friends. It took a while, but we were able to pretty much figure out who the rat was. I won't go any deeper with this, but OC is our friend and brother. We should respect his reasoning, and in the long run we will be a better and stronger community because of it.

One other point that I would like to make. There is no way to stop people from selling music. It has been going on since way back when. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have been quoted saying that they buy Stones bootlegs. One of John Lennon's primary reasons for buying and living in the Dakota building was so he could frequent the Village and was an avid bootleg buyer. Of course that was back in the day when you had to buy bootlegs, in order to have them.
Things are different now, trading is easier and taper bands have their trading policies. Still, some people will always be out there trying to make a buck. They will lure in the impulse buyer and newbies and the whole supply and demand thing will take place.
I try and look at it like this, surely sooner or later the impulse buyer will learn to trade and do what is right. Surely, after paying high prices, and then listening, one would soon realize that the money would have been better spent at the grocery store or for other necessities. But, then some other impulse buyer takes his place. It's just something that happens. I wish it wouldn't, but there's not much we can do about it. You know how people are, tell them that they shouldn't do something, and they will do it again just to show you that they can.

Here's my take. What Coot is doing a tremendous service to this community, period!
He has source shows that if he did'nt allow out to the community they would never be heard. Such as the 93 Santa Barbra, the 94 Greatwoods and a lot of the old stuff that is remastered and then released through us. I know this because I'm 1/3 of the team that see's that they are put out. Now with that said, They are still his sources and out of respect for his wishes he can set any rules he see's fit and demand that the same be done by the others that are distrubiting the shows. To some it may sound brash, But the fact is he can also decide to put a shop to these SBD'S getting out anywhere!
And because I know what's coming and what has'nt even been touched yet, Let me tell you, It's incredible! But in no uncertain terms this is his toys in his sandbox and if there are people that don't agree with this then that's just tuff! Go get your own sandbox!
This is the way it's got to be for now until he feels differant.

And everyone reading this take note that if any of these Old Coot SBD's or any new Captskipper remasters show up on ebay, IT'S OVER! At least publicily. Just like I'm doing now. I don't necessary like it but at least I know who to go to if there is ever a problem.
It will be sad if this way of distributing music becomes the norm!!!!!
