Man, I do love fall. I love the fact that my girls are still young enough to want to go out and find the perfect punkin to bring home and carve. We have 5 right now, ready for carving and scraping the innards out. I love that part. I love to dig my hands in there and pull out the guts of the pumpkin. Throw the stuff onto the newspaper and know that I get to sort it out later.

Tonight we did a pumpkin and ran out of time, so tomorrow will conclude the carving fun. Then we get to dry the seeds, season them and put them in the oven for yet another fun night!

Anyone have a pumpkin seed recipe? I don't have a traditional family one, and would love to hear from someone who does this every year (or used to) and has a family spice that is used before baking. I'm looking to write it on a recipe card for my girls to have in the years to come.

Happy Fall To All! And don't forget about those clocks this weekend.

Peace...

JoLyn, I always liked roasted pumpkin seeds. I also roast other peannuts and do have a few recipes I pull out around the fall/winter Holiday's. Spicy nuts and seeds are great!

Love your post, Mudflapgirl!!! It's very cool you are making these life memories with your girls - the pumpkin carving ritual is one thing I miss about having kids at home now. I roasted my pumpkin seeds a couple of ways. Amounts of ingredients always dependent on how many seeds I had.

Wash pumpkin seeds. Melt together butter (couple TBLSP), garlic powder to taste (app tsp), salt to taste (app tsp), and either cajun seasoning (spicy) or seasoning salt (savory - something like Lowry's, also to taste and reduce actual salt of you use this). Toss clean seeds in bowl with melted butter/spice mixture to coat. Spread on cookie sheet and bake app. 45 minutes at 300 degrees until golden brown (stir during the cooking process to bake evenly). For healthier take use olive oil instead of butter. Some other good spices to use here are curry, chili powder, rosemary/thyme mixture, basil/oregano mixture.

Have fun!

Feels more like winter. The rain just turned to snow here in NJ.

AAACCKKK!! Not the 'S' word yet, please! It's been cold here in the middle ... 20's this morning when I woke up and it wasn't over freezing as I drove into work. (Definitely need to finish bringing summer in this weekend and get the patio packed away. )

fall is beautiful here in the western ny area (Buffalo) the leaves are awesome colors & the air is usually crisp & clear....but it has been getting rather cold too early here too (30's at night) & some slushy snowy mess in the mountainous areas. one thing I do appreciate about fall is that we get back into a routine of sorts, with school & sports & other such after school stuff... a huge change from the summer chaos & warm weather that I surely do miss! the scary thing is that the holidays will sneak up on us wayyyyy tooooo quickly now as there are less than 2 months of shopping days left, officially!
