Is Jack the only official member of the band that isn't on some type of official release? If so, what's the hold up? Putting out one soundboard show with him for sale as a download on Munck Music or some other site would be a welcome addition to my collection.

They did a PPV special during his tenure, but it wasn't ever released after that. That would be a cool "archive" release to do on DVD. And you can find Jack on several Instant Lives or MunckMusic releases where he either sat in with the band (e.g., Atlanta Fox Theatre a few years back) or subbed for Derek or Warren (e.g., Wanee Fest a couple years ago).

Jack's tenure was pretty special, even if new material well was dry, which I think is a testament to his playing. I regularly spin his amazing take on "Dreams" from the Fox Box. It would be nice to have a solid show from that period, I have a rough show someone was kind enough to send me, but it's not the same as a soundboard - and I'm sure there's one out there.

I believe the 2 shows from The Rosemont Theater 8/13/05 and The DTE energy Music Center 8/14/05 are available on Instant Live thru HTN, these shows featured Jack and Derek on guitar with no Warren . The Rosemont show was the only time I've seen Jack play, really fantastic........Peace.........joe

Was Derek not at the 8/14 show? It lists Ron Holloway and Jack which would be interesting.

Jack subbed for Warren from 8/12 through 8/17, then was a guest on 8/19. Some great shows, IMHO.

He really is lefty, I totally agree. Very tastly slide work, and he seems to approach his playing effortlessly with a great combination of blues, country and jazz licks. He can even sing a bit!!

On HTN (www.hittinthenote.com), there's an instant live for the ABB 8/19/05 show from Scranton PA where Jack plays with Derek and Warren.

I enjoyed this show mainly because I was there and up close and not on the lawn like I usually am.

Love Jacks playing, his Jazz-infused licks, smoothe tone and soft touch are incredibly tasty...he is also a great guy to boot.

That being said, it's waaaaaaaay better now. Warren and Derek are re-writing the book on what a guitar duo is supposed to play like. I just can't get enough, I am simply in awe of what they are accomplishing . ...YMMV.

It will be great though to see Jack back on stage with The Brothers for Beacon 2009...I am willing to bet he will bet there.

And he was in Toronto 15th. & London 16th. for 2 shows during that run of subbing for Warren in 2005. Chuck was in Toronto rehearsing with the Stones and sat in as well on 15th. Jessica was outstanding as you can imagine. Anybody that wants copies of these shows,pm me and I'll do a B&P... Jack is the man, second only to Duane on my personal list of guitar greats.

While Jack guesting and subbing is fine, his tenure had interplay those won't, namely Mr Betts. That era was my favorite after the Duane era. There is in cirulation a radio broadcast show, 2CD, that is soundboard and very nice. A 98 Beacon run compilation, that ironicly was called "Peakin' At The Beacon" before that "other" one......

Hey Tony,

I remember you sending me a copy of the radio show and it's an excellent sounding recording, and both Dickey and Jack were "hittin the note" that night. And like you I enjoyed when Jack was playing the ABB (was fortunate enough to see "Dickey/Jack" version of the ABB at Nissan back in '98), definely a good version of the band.

As much as I love the current lineup,my next favorite lineup besides the original band is the Jack and Oteil lineup

A more complete guitar player is hard to come up with as Jack seems to be able to play any style and play it amazingly well. He's definitely in my top favorite 5 guitar players of all time.

Was fornate to get to see the Jack-lineup of the ABB 6 times between 1997-1999. Some amazing highlights in those shows, including High Falls in particular.

My issue was that Jack's tone/sound changed due to what I think was related to the volume he had to turn up to in a band like the ABB. I love his playing and tone on Gregg's Searchin for Simplicity and Jimmy Hall's record. He lost the "rustic" old blues part of his sound in the ABB. It was cleaner. Again, I think related directly to volume level. That's why a studio recording would have been sweet where they could have recorded him lower.

Jack was wonderful at Bill Ector's memorial service on the acoustic. Very humble man (just like Willie)

Agreed, pick up that Rosemont, IL show with Jack sitting in for Warren....first time I've ever seen Jack and have to be honest, didn't miss Warren at all throughout the show. Not to take anything away from Warren because I adore the man, but Jack is one of those rare players thats just special....my jaw hung open as I walked out of the theatre that night.

You're absolutely right, and "stage volume" was a major reason why Jack left the ABB. Jack by and large is not a loud player, and his reasons for leaving the ABB was that the band was so loud, he was developing tinnunitis. One of the reason, he still "sits in" with the ABB nowadays, is that the ABB doesn't play near as loud as it used to back in the '90s. Jack Pearson really is an incredible player. Touch, tone and knowing what to play (and just as important, what not to play), you don't get any better than Jack.
