Why is all of this going unnoticed by the media???? They send 1000 reporters to Alaska to dig up something on Sarah Palin and they have this right in front of their eyes! Obama writings from his books.

From Dreams of My Father:'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

From Dreams of My Father:'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'

From Dreams of My Father:'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damning one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope:'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

* If you have never forwarded an e-mail, now is the time to Do so!!! We CANNOT have someone with this type of mentality running our nation!! I don't care whether you a Democrat or a Conservative. We CANNOT turn ourselves over to this type of character in a President. PLEASE help spread the word
Amazing, a democrat set this to me.

If that's in his books, it might be a good idea for some journalists to question him on it.

I've never been a black child growing up in a segregated America so I can't speak to what he wrote about what he felt. I have read nothing in the post that causes me alarm but then I'm not a fearful person. As for the comment about Muslims....I would stand up for them too...and the Jews and the Christians and all other peoples against injustice. Not all Muslims are terrorists and it's wrong for an entire religion to be defined by a few.

It doesn't say that anywhere in that book:

quote:
"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

This statement is a rewording of a passage from page 261 of The Audacity of Hope, in which Barack Obama spoke of the importance of not allowing inflamed public opinion to result in innocent members of immigrant groups being stripped of their rights, denied their due as American citizens, or placed into confinement, as was done with Japanese-Americans during World War II. The original contains no specific mention of "Muslims":

In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.

Analysis of the entire email...where else but: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/ownwords.asp

These poor SOB GOPers feel that their best shot is to try to take things out of context, but all that shows is poor reading skills. In the meantime, the McCain and especially Palin camps keep shooting themselves in the foot (as if shooting from a copter) in full context. So much for straight shooting.

If that was in his books, it would have come out by now. You think people like Hannity haven't combed these books looking for something like that?

Having not read his books, I would have to say that I'm ignorant as to if they were or weren't. That's why the opening word is "If".

Why do conservatives love out of context statements? Another wingnut mass email finds its way to your inbox and you dont apply one ounce of critical thinking skills? Color me surprised.

EDIT: Just saw the debunking provided by Bhawk. You would think that after being made to look like an idiot, more than once now, that some of these folks would get the hint to fact check *anything* they get from a right wing/conservative/republican source. I love the fact that most of these folks are intellectually lazy.

I would have used the appropriate smiley but I couldn't figure out which one I should use for sarcasm when I wrote the above comment.

I'm thinking he should have stood pat on Obama being the antichrist. That is pretty tough to disprove.

Ya for real, who doesn't know about Snopes by now? Why doesn't it occur to people (mbtogo4) to check stuff out before posting? Do they not care if they look like idiots or not?

What gets me is how quickly people will believe an email as long as it supports what they want to hear. Hell, I get all kinds of stuff from the moderate to the extreme left. Sure, I'll read something and wish it were true , but I owe it to myself to fact check it, therefore protecting my own state of opinion from those who would try to sway me because I happen to share certain or similar beliefs on certain things. I even got an email about McCain being born in the PCZ.

The right repeats lies until they believe them and then make ads about them. I see that McCain has had a bump up in the polls ever since he started the 'Joe the Plumber' lies. Every time someone asks him in person about Joe in an interview he downplays it but the ads cherrypick lines from Obama out of context and then spin them. Nobody ever seems to notice the simple glossing over of the facts that the example was overstated, ie, in order for the plumbing business to gross $250k, it would be grossing a lot more. Joe was never a serious person.

I've noticed that anything can be made to sound just about however you wish for it to when taken out of context.

'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

There's no lack of context here. The sentence is complete and BarryO wrote it. It speaks for itself.

Yes. There is lack of context there. I'm sure that was not a stand-alone sentence with nothing surrounding it.

On top of that, the actual quote never included the word "Muslims". RBK is lying again.
