Nope. It's not GnR without Slash, Duff, Matt/Steven or Izzy.

I heard the title track this morning.

Awfully.

Darned.

Good.

A few months ago there was an article in Guitar World, about how Chinese Democracy got started and stopped and restarted , and so on. There was a lot about BucketHead. I was stunned to hear (read) the crazy stuff about him. He made Axl look like a saint, if all that was written is true.

Did his work get on the final cut?

I hope Buckethead's tracks make it. They've got a cat now playing with them named Bumblefoot. And he can flat out spank it as well.

Axl said that Bucket's parts are staying on the album, so take that for what its worth.
I also read that article about GnR/Buckethead and I really did NOT like how the writer portrayed Bucket. The opening paragraph he states Bucket's real name is in my mind very disrespectful towards him and what he has been doing for nearly 20 years...not being known by his name and making himself worldwide known. And I'm not sure if the author was trying to make it look like Bucket was a huge problem with the productivity of the band and the album or what not...but he was only in the band for 2 years I think, quitting once and being convinced to rejoin only to quit again because the band(Axl) was going absolutely nowhere. Highly doubt his 2 year tenure in the band had a major role in the 14 years in the making Chinese Democracy.
Wow, can you tell I'm quite fond of Mr. Head and what he does?

this thinking is entirely wrong because Buckethead had revealed his real name in a Guitar Player interview
a few years ago.

I will get Chinese Democracy because Buckethead is on it.

A buddy of mine who is in the business heard a version of it about a year ago and he said he was shocked at how good it was. Its not a GnR album in my opion but it might actually be a decent add to the collection regardless.

I will probably pick it up out of a morbid curiosity....

Totally agree with Big Dave and others , I do not care about a Axl Rose solo cd .

Are you implying that they were more important than Slash? Both guys have a hard enough time wrapping themselves around playing a Stones guitar part. Izzy was a solid guy and knew his role and he was also the first to figure out that it was a bad scene and get out.

Legally Axl can call it G&R but Dave is right about it not being the band without Slash, Duff and Izzy. Steven is really mute because they were much more solid with Matt. I saw some terrible shows during the heroin years where either Steven, Slash or both were so destroyed that they could barely stand/sit let alone play.

But as for the 'sound' of the band, the main ingrediants were Slash and Axl's voice. I like Slash's playing but can live without hearing Axl especially listening to him sing Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Almost as bad as Yoko on that one.

I've always found it interesting that Axl hired Bucket Head given his similarity in style to EVH. I mention this because I recall Axl stating in an interview wayyy back in the day that he was attracted to Slash's style and sound because he wasn't trying to be an Ed Van Halen clone or wanna be like every other player in the early to mid-eighties. When I heard that statement, I realized he was right, nearly everyone in hard rock at the time was trying to be Eddie.....and there's only one Eddie. That's the thing about Slash, Like EVH and other great players, he's got his own style. While it's not my cup of tea, it's still his. I honestly haven't heard enough of Bucket Head to understand what the appeal is. He seems more of a shredder than anything to me....No doubt he can rip, but I don't know enough of his stuff to say he's got his own style and sound. To those who know his stuff, am I wrong?

Listened to the first single online yesterday and thought it was a pretty decent tune, although a bit on the generic side of things in terms of hard-rock songs. The guitar sound, in particular, was very generic sounding, and the solo reminded me of a 1980s shredder solo (but longer than 20 seconds). These were just my impressions on a first listen, but still thought it was a pretty good song.

well lets see, guns n roses is a combination of the band hollywood rose (axl and izzy) and l.a. guns (tracii guns, ole beich and rob gardner). so if all the people from l.a. guns who were in the original guns n roses lineup are fired/quit including tracii guns the namesake of l.a. guns then how can it still be GUNS and roses when anything relating to the GUNS part was gone. its like gregg allman leaving and it still being called the allman brothers band with no one named allman in it anymore.

where did you hear that? supposedly axl picked slash for 2 reasons. reason 1 he played the same guitar as tracii guns and had a similar style. reason 2 slash was in the band opening for GNR and axl needed a guitar player
