Tonight banner 17 goes to the rafters in the Boston Garden. On WEEI they mentioned how the Celtics legend will pass the banner to two current players. Sort of a passing of the torch.

LaBron has chosen that he and his team will sit in the locker room

# The ceremonies begin around 7:30 p.m., and will be shown on TNT.

# Former "American Idol" contestant and BC hoopster Ayla Brown will sing the National Anthem around 7:38 p.m.

# The ceremonies will feature players getting their rings, video highlights from the championship season, and, of course, the raising of the banner to the Garden rafters. The banner raising will take place at around 7:52 p.m., according to the Boston Herald.

# Celtics legends will be part of the festivities as well. Among those expected to be in attendance: M.L. Carr, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Tom Heinsohn, Cedric Maxwell, Satch Sanders, and JoJo White.

# Commissioner David Stern is expected to speak tonight, as is Paul Pierce, who yesterday talked about what the banner-raising means to him.

# The rings are worth about $30,000 and feature emeralds and diamonds, with a shamrock front and center. Check out this photo of the ring, courtesy of the Herald.

# Tipoff is expected to be at 8:02 p.m. on TNT. If you remember, the last time the Cavaliers visited the Garden was Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, which featured a memorable shootout between Paul Pierce (41 points) and LeBron James (45 points).

Wizard get a home opener for the first time in a decade. Areanas out for another month at least. Haywood
gone for the year. Young players like Blatche, Young and McGee need to step it up for the Wiz to get a good
start this year.

The referees did their level best to THOROUGHLY **** UP the Celtics game with Houston last night
Tracy McGrady made a pass inside to Yao Ming from beyond the three point line in the waning seconds, and they put him at the line for three shots -- you'd have to see the replay to believe this -- & the refs even looked at a replay, and still determined that McGrady was in the act of shooting, which everyone in Houston's building knew he wasn't

the terrible caliber of officiating contributes to the NBA's reputation/rumor mill of games being fixed -- at the very least, by league dictate the superstars play under different rules than the other players -- it STINKS

Quite an interesting box score from the other night -- the new-look Clippers -- five of the eight people in their rotation scored in double figures, and one who didn't, old friend Marcus Camby, had nine points & 14 rebounds -- him & Chris Kaman up front, then they have Baron Davis in the backcourt, Andre Thornton, this kid Gordon coming off the bench along with the two Davises (not Baron)...
same old story -- if they stay healthy the Clippings, 1-6 start & all will make a run at the playoffs -- this year's Warriors won't win the 53 games Don Nelson needs for his 1,000th win -- no Maggette, no Ellis, no more Baron D. or Pietrius -- I loved that story that came out over the summer about Monta Ellis's injury -- he suffers what was confirmed to be a really bad ankle injury -- RIDING A MOTOR SCOOTER!! What a creative lie that was -- I don't blame the Warriors for contesting him on it -- those things can't go more than 20-25 mph -- someone with no coordination like a senior citizen for instance might injure their ankle that bad on a scooter, but a young lithe kid like that? -- sure Monta, keeping spewin' out the BS Royale...
I think it'll be Phoenix's year overall in the West, that all-star cast will finally find their identity (again, If They Stay Healthy) -- they & the Lakers are the teams to beat. Houston is right in the mix too but they've proven too injury-prone over the years -- but that Yao-Artest-McGrady combination could be real dynamite...

Go Hawks! 6 and zero baby! Enjoying it while I can although they may be the real deal this year, Big Al is going to be one of the NBA's best, Marvin Williams is finally going to live up to the hype he had coming out of the draft and being picked over Paul and Williams, and they finally have a point guard and bench.

Hawks?? Clippers? Wizzards? And here I thought the Celtics were the only team in the NBA worth talking about.

Ok, *maybe* the Hawks are worthy of some discussion.

Man, what a game (and what an ending) last night!

That was a great game, the Hawks showed the league that they are for real last night. If there is such a thing as a good loss, that was one for them last night. Took a Pierce buzzer beater to do it, Marvin Williams was on, what, 4 for 4 from the 3 point line? And with KG guarding him? Wow, I think this is his year, Amazing what you can do when you are playing for a contract! And just wait till Josh Smith gets back and big Al moves back to the middle.

I think the Hawks are in the playoff hunt for a top-seed this year.

The Wiz finally get a win 1-5, at against Utah.

Will this be a repeat of last year when they opened 0-5 then won 6 straight?

The wiz are worth talking about. they were the only team that won their regular
season series with Boston.

LAKERS are off to a nice start and have a deep bench. Bynum and Kobe are gelling nicely after all of their squabling.

THE TRUTH Again!!!!

Great game against the tough Atlanta Hawks. They were lights out from 3pt, and the refs gave them some generous calls.

wiz lose again last night blown out in Miami

The wiz perimeter defense is just awful this year. Too many good shooters getting wide open looks at
the hoop.

sigh

from the washingpost

ATLANTA, Nov. 19 -- For a fleeting moment, it seemed that cocky swagger that has come to define the Washington Wizards in their annual journey through adversity had returned. A desperate, hard-luck team appeared set to pull out a gutsy road victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night when DeShawn Stevenson dribbled toward the right baseline, gave Maurice Evans a slight nudge for separation, then drilled a jumper over him to give the Wizards a four-point lead with just more than a minute remaining.

Stevenson waved his hand over his face, rookie JaVale McGee patted him on his backside and Stevenson then jumped into Caron Butler as a stunned Philips Arena crowd looked on. It was a premature celebration, because the Wizards don't have the Eastern Conference's worst record by mistake. They've earned it in a season that has been marked by fourth-quarter mishaps and an inability to close.

No one could score after that. Boy do we need Gilbert back

1-8

I-ME-MINE POST THAT'S TOO LONG
Boy just 10-12 games into the season & the pattern is pretty well defined already -- like last year, the Celts & one or two others in the East, and once again a stacked west conf. where a damn good team once again won't make the playoffs -- Orlando is a good ballclub, and Cleve./Det. are two interchangeable competitive clubs in the east, then the rest are once again mediocre (Toronto might well come on)
Hmm, who was it that said the Clippers would make a run at the playoffs? That the Warriors wouldn't win 53 games this year? -- boy where did this Morrow kid come from for Golden State, plus it looks like Corey Maggette is healthy now -- & I still think LA could make some noise this year, if they stay healthy, which Houston hasn't as usual
Like last year the midwest div. w/Denver & Utah is the top-shelf hoops -- Utah stood pat in the offseason & are right in line for another conference title -- no Camby or AI for the nugs anymore but, again like last year they're a bomb waiting to go off -- Billups is working out good & I'm rooting for Nene -- he deserves to have an injury-free year, he never has before & this guy if he ever realized his full potential is a monster -- KMart had a good game last night over SA & is playing good -- a bench of JR Smith, Linas Klieza etc., w/veterans like Anthony Carter and Chucky Atkins around -- the nugs are dank mon -- they'll exceed their 50-win total of last year -- looking forward to LA-Phoenix on the tube tonite! Excellent early-season matchup
...in the meantime, as someone posted before, it's all about the Celtics -- Powe, Big Baby and Eddie Davis are the best bench in the league w/Scal etc.

Well the Celtics & Lakers both actually -- but once again, the bench was huge as we handled Orlando w/no problem -- the balance on the team right now is perfect -- as much as I hated to see James Posey go it would still not be a bad thing if it opened up more playing time for Powe & GLEN Davis, & it has -- we lose NOTHING when they come in, & same w/Eddie
Don Nelson needs to bail, his being there is doing nobody any good -- the Warriors are awful -- a complete gift-wrapped loss to Miami last night

Poor Eddie Jordan gets the can, because his young players come into the season out of shape and unready or
unable to perform. A good Coach is sacrificed to wake up overpaid babies. These idiots knew Gilbert was
out for the first month and they would be relied on. their response? report out of shape, They even
had to setup a special conditioning program for Blatche???? How professional is that?

Portland has to be included in the mix now too, Greg Oden looks to be the real deal type who makes the players around him better -- he & Roy are Some Tandem -- a lot of Shaq-Wade in that duo -- with Oden there Steve Blake is having a career year, something that you always thought he might have in him at some point (what a college player) -- Utah has been devastated w/injuries but are still hanging in there (wait till Boozer & Kirilenko get healthy) -- the nugs are playing better w/Billups & Nene than anyone could've imagined (except me of course ) -- reallly thought this was the kind of ball they had in them last year w/AI & Camby, but this adjustment is really working out good
