I had 4 older sisters that gave me a bunch of great music from as long as I can remember. My first purchase with my own $ was The Monkees. Had to have I'm A Believer, and Last Train To Clarksville!

1st album I bought was REO Speedwagon's self titled debut LP - with 157 Riverside Ave. on it.

2nd album was Grand Funk Railroad - Grand Funk (aka The Red Album.)

I still have both.

Here's the first. The Who "Live At Leeds" was the second one.

I think it was McCartney with the cherries in the bowl on the back of the cover. I had been given a few others, my brother had some, but I think that was the first album I actually bought. I think it was around $4 or $5 at Jason's Records in Quincy, MA.

For me it was "Help" by The Beatles; I must have been 8 or 9 years old. It was the movie soundtrack and, to my youthful dismay, it had a bunch of instrumental tracks, obviously not played by the group. I still have the record. I should dig it out and see if those "instrumental" tracks are interesting. The first Beatles CD I ever bought was also "Help". It had to be done.

Too funny Kevin. That was mine too. Then I bought 3 more Monkee albums. My first cool LP was Led Zep II.

Actually the first album was non musical. It was Orson Wells War of the Worlds. That was one scary story in my younger days.

The first musical LP was Rare Earth, the one that looked like a army backpack.

Despite growing up (teen years) in the 60's with the Beatles / Stones et al ... this was the first LP that I actually purchased ...
