I sure know I am. I am even considering holding some stuff over for my sons Birthday in June. Things just seem to be getting tighter and tighter.

Hard for me to say..my wife and I do things differently, I think. We buy gifts year round if there's a great deal, get a killer coupon, etc. We actually have all of our shopping done for the nieces and nephews, etc... My folks are huge into Christmas decorations, we hit the post-holiday clearance at Target back in January and have all of their decoration presents ready to go, they've been in a closet for 10 months.

My wife and I will be spending much less , as in zero.
We've already agreed that our Christmas gift to each other will be keeping the heat on all winter and the bills paid.

Yes - but for my wife and I it's more about reducing the kid's frenzy that makes up Christmas morning that about not being able to afford stuff.

For some, I'm going to buy things my family needs and can use for Christmas and other than that, it's going to be a 'make it or bake it' Christmas for presents this year.

We've always done a lot of that too.
Right now my 10 year old boy has two hawk feathers we'll use to make something for Mom...
My wife and i usually buy somehting we need for the house (like a washing machine - how romantic!) and call it a gift from and to each other.

Yes on the gift side of things, but still lots of food and music and decorations in the house, its all about family and friends.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving and the Xmas break.

Absolutely, I have no choice. I don't have kids but used to buy something for each of my friend's kids. Not any more. I will buy a little something for my mother and father and that is it. Unfortunetly, the economy will not be stimulated by me.

I've thought Christmas has been over commercialized for a long time now so we started playing dirty Santa for the adults with everyone bringing a Christmas ornament to swap. It's worked out really well and my tree is filling up with memories. For my brothers, Mom, friends, etc, I bake cookies and make candies. This year I'll probably go with the gourmet granola bars I make. For the grandkids I limit the amount I'm going to spend on each one to X amount of dollars and then I stay in the budget.

Last year I found a place on ebay that sells beautiful pearl necklaces for under $50...my limit....and I got necklaces for all the girls in the family.....our one daughter took it to the jewlers to get it insured and it was appraised for $1,000. So, ebay is a blessing for us around here at Christmas time.

I'm not in a spending mood this year. But I will buy gifts for the kids, including my husband. He doesn't need a big expensive present. Just something wrapped up pretty! We may go on a trip for Christmas. One year we spent the holidays in Las Vegas and another in San Francisco. That's my preference.

When did Christmas become more about presents than about family and being together and celebrating the life of Jesus? I don't like that stores are already competing for the holiday dollar and we haven't even trick or treated yet!

My favorite is when the media (TV) tells us that retail stores are reporting that we need to spend more $$$

Everyone associated with me knows I follow one simple rule. I don't go into debt to buy gifts.

So, I'll start early, save a little, put in some extra time at work, etc., and do the best I can. But I'm not borrowing money to buy you something. Sorry.

I started doing that several years ago....makes January a much nicer month to do it that way doesn't it.

I stopped "doing" Christmas a few years ago. I may send some cards to get folks caught up on my whereabouts, but that will be all. I don't think I spent any money last year at Christmas. I probably won't this year, unless it is a bottle of wine to take to dinner. I like to give gifts when they aren't expected.

If I lived closer to my grandchildren, then I'm sure it would be a different story. My family used to do big Christmases, but deaths and life changes have ended those days.

I like Thanksgiving as a holiday much better, anyway.

One year I made those jars of soup ingredients you could cook up by just adding water. I gave Mom a basket of them and it simplified her cooking greatly. I think I'll do a few more of those this year too.
