Anyone else a fan? I've been listening to a lot of late period Byrds which led me back to The Whites. IMHO Clarence is one of the most underated guitar pickers ever. On Byrds Live at Albert Hall he is just burning up the frets. Lover of the Bayou and an insnaely different 8 Miles High....not to mention everything in between. Just curious if anyone else here digs where he was coming from. (Sadly he is another one who left us too soon. Run downn by a drunk driver during load out in Palmdale Ca. at 29.)

Another fan of his work with the Byrd's. Here's a good youtube of Clarance with Gene Parsons (off Parson's solo album Kindling).

(found an appearance he made on Andy Griffith show, also )

I like him I'm a sucker for that early country-rock before it was watered down

He also invented the string bender which gives his Tele that steel guitar sound....Jimmy Page used to use one.

The guy's playing was totaly unique....nobody else sounded like him. He practically created a new style of playing guitar.

Here's some footage from Fillmore East September 23, 1970 where the Byrds performed with the Allmans, Sha Na Na, Van Morrison, Albert King, Elvin Bishop and Van Morrison.

This is the same night were we got the well-known footage of the ABB doing "Dreams" "Whipping Post" "Liz Reed" and "Don't Keep Me Wondering."

Yeah CW has been referred to as the sixth Byrd even more important than GP who only lasted 6 months and who usually gets credit for the new direction the byrds took in 68.BTW, CW played on "SH of the Rodeo "but not sure where. CW made the BYRDS the best Country Rock Band in the country for a short time. Many bands influences can be traced to that BYRD period with CW. The Doobies often opened with" Jesus is just alright"

Untitled still is one of my fav albums of that period .

A remarkable guitar player, unique stylist. One of my favorites (among many) was his country/psychedelic take on "This Wheel's on Fire". Would love to see Derek take a crack at this one.

Listen to "You Ain't Going Nowhere." What sounds like a steel guitar is Clarence White using his B-Bender. IF you really like CW, check out Muleskinner if you can find it.

There is a CD called Appalachain Stomp where Clarence and his brother Roland play "Nine Pound Hammer" just trading off chorus after chorus of incredible unequaled virtuosity. Need to check that one out y'all!

Yes - long time fan of CW and the Byrds. Some good stuff out on Youtube & Wolfgang's Vault. Will be seeing a show next week with Roger McGuinn at local performing arts center.
