Because we allocate serial numbers based on the time we receive the orders - I wanted to let this forum be the first to know about the HTN pre-order for the boxed sets:

We believe that these twenty three 2008 performances by the Allman Brothers Band represent the best playing this version of the band has ever achieved! In talking with various memebers of the band and management they are in complete agreement - 2008 was something very special - and a wonderful lead-in to the upcoming 40th anniverary year.

We expect these Complete Summer Sets to be available for the holidays and, as they do every year, these serial numbered collectors items will include a subscription to Hittin' the Note magazine, a special concert not available to the general public (the college concert fund raiser for Obama-Biden CD) along with various tour goodies to remind us of what a special year 2008 was. The serial numbers will be allocated based on the time and date your order is received.

The final cost of these box sets will be "around" $525 with 4 shows for free and we ask that you deposit $100 now so that we can determine how many to order.

If you have already purchased some of these shows from Hittin' the Note we will work with you on adjusting the final price of the box set.

It truely was an extraordinary tour and we look forward to delivering these goods to such deserving fans - Thank you!

JNB

Will you all be doing the West's Best sets again this year ?
As much as I'd like to own the full tour, I can't help thinking that Mrs BBC would sell me for gas and grocery money if I came up off this much bread at one time.

Don't know if I'll be able to afford it, but sure sounds great.

Yes, we will be offering the West Best (6 shows for the price of 5) and El Grande packages (12 shows for the price of 10) as soon as we pick the shows that will be included. we already know a few that we all agree on but we need to wait till the Tour Mystic gets back in town for the final decision.

Thanks for your interest!

A little to pricey for me also. But may go in for a West Best or El Grande.
I was very pleased with the advice I got last year when I bought a few 2007 shows
and loving replaying them along with the cd I picked up at show I went to this year.
Thanks!

Having seen roughly half of this past tour and listening to every 2008 show on CD, I have to agree with JNB that this was a very special year! The interplay between band members, the passion in Gregg's voice, the overall sound of the band, and the sheer intensity were all at a very high level this year, unmatched in recent years.

I understand some people can't afford the complete set, but if there was ever a year where every show is worth hearing, it was 2008! Here is the link to put down a deposit..

More than I would spend, although it certainly would be nice to have the entire collection. Here's what I don't get: Do the math. $625 divided by 23 shows equals $27.17 per show. THAT AIN'T CHEAP. I bought three sets from last year, Wanee first night, Wanee second night, and New Orleans Jazz Fest, and they were all $25 per. So not only has the price gone up, they're charging you MORE than last year for buying all 23 shows, instead of giving you a price break. HTN: Good luck collecting those $100 deposits, I doubt there will be many rolling in.

There is more to it than just the CD cost - the custom box itself usually runs around $100.

Not to mention the year subscription to HTN, the Obama benefit show which is unavailable elsewhere at any price, and all the other goodies we always throw in...

Robslob, if you check past Complete Sets, you'll find that this is actually the cheapest yet, which is fitting given that there were fewer shows this year.

IF all the other shows were as good as Charlotte and the two Atlanta shows, it should be one amazing stack of music!!

It would be cool to get the best version of each song on this years tour and put it out on CD. Maybe the "Tour Setlist" One cut of every song played this year. That way you would only get 1 version per song instead of a bunch of CD's with the same songs on it. Put it on the least amount of CD's possible and sell it at a attractive price point.

Though I love the Complete show set idea, one of the issues that would keep me from buying the complete set is having so many CD's with the same core songs on it.

But that is the beauty of of it, every version of the same song is different. Especially the jams, Liz Reed, Mtn. Jam, Les Bres, Same thing, etc...

I agree, I love every version. I already have 3 shows from this years tour. If I bought the set, I would then have doubles on 3 shows. My suggestion was not to replace the complete set, but to enhance whats available. Most folks that would purchase the set would probably be a hard core fan. A new fan would probably not purchase it. Many folks purchased the shows they attended. For some it may be their first ABB CD. Offering something new with a different format may spark some additional sales for the band and magazine.

Just a quick point for rottinpeach--If you've already purchased 3 shows from this year, but wanted to get the Complete Set, we would "pro-rate" it and deduct the cost of the shows you already have. Just FYI...

And yes, the Complete Set is obviously for the serious collector We are working on our West's Best and West's Best El Grande sets right now, which collect some of the best shows of the year. Those sets will be much less expensive, but will still give you the cream of the crop from what was a truly great year for the ABB. That might be a better option for some folks.

Thanks for your support!

Hi PhotoRon - I know you more by your guesbook name than your real name pls PM me your "real" name and address and the situation...thanks.

Regarding the concept of a compilation CD with the best version of each song played - it's a great idea, but one that becomes impractical when you take into consideration the time it takes to deal with each seperate venue and contract. It's something that has been discussed since the first year, 2003 - but the formula still hasn't changed enough to make it practical.

They did the same thing a few years back with the private charity show the ABB did at the Belle Haven Beach club. The only way to get that show was to order the box set.

Thanks Joe, I had a thought in the back of my mind that the contract stuff may be what may have kept this from happening before now. Good to see you folks over the last week. Thanks for what you offer, and do for us fans!!!
