The weekend is finally here

I can take part in jacking up the traffic in one of the best cities of the world. Heading into Chicago tomorrow morning...Sunday morning race time is 8:00...my left knee has been bothering me for the last two weeks so I don't think I can keep up with the Kenyans, but I'm going to give it my best shot at finishing the damn thing. It's only 26.2 miles...

If anyone is interested in cyber-following my slow butt through the streets of Chicago, my bib # is 27715...I guess you can go to the Chicago Marathon website and track runners...if you notice that I never make it past mile marker 8 - you might assume I stopped at the bar that Lee frequents...

Chicago was my first marathon - way back in 1992. Those darn Kenyans were fast back then also.

Good luck - relax & enjoy it!!!

I usually run to the kitchen the fastest around 10:00 pm for that late night snack.

No one has ever been able to record the time. Usually all they see is a blur.

I'm so excited for you, Chad!!

I'm going to see if I can remember my "Top 10 Post Marathon Pick-Up Lines", for you to use on some hot marathon woman after the race. You'll get them, others here might think we're both crazy.

Good luck Sandman - looks like it'll be a little warm, so drink plenty beforehand and don't go out too fast. Enjoy yourself!!! I'm running the Columbus, OH marathon next weekend...I actually wish it was this week so I could get it over with.

Have fun!!!

UPDATE

Chad is running the marathon right now!!! I've been tracking his progress. So far, so good. Based on online info, he's should be about to the 1/2 way mark. He's worked really hard and has been fighting injuries. Can we send some love and FAST vibes out to Chad???

GO CHAD!!!

The updates are always behind. I'm guessing Chad has finished now. These are really great splits for a first marathon.

CHAD - I HOPE YOU'RE ENJOYING THIS!

Too cool, Chad!!! Can't believe you were able to squeeze this in with all else you've got going on but congratulations for running the race (all the way)!

Thanks, everyone!

I finished it. 5:16:45. A little slower than I hoped before my knee problems, but I'll totally take it. I've been fighting a bulky knee for the last couple of weeks that actually felt pretty good throughout the run. It reached 80 degrees and sunny so that didn't help any either.

But it's a great city and was an incredible experience. Running through all the great neighborhoods of Chicago was awesome. I felt fantastic at the half way marker - probably running too fast though as it was still pretty cool yet and my knee felt good. By mile 20 it had reached the upper 70s and I could definitely feel it. My right right leg cramped up badly at about mile 21 and I had to stop and stretch it out.

At that point I had to start alternating walking and running and then before mile 23 my knee started hurting. The last few miles were tough but I was able to suck it up and ran the last mile. I probably looked pretty silly limping into the finish line. But what an experience running that last mile in front of 1,000s of people cheering you on and then crossing the finish line....honestly, I started crying like a baby...

Then I felt less than steller the night after the race - I think at one point I swore off ever doing a marathon again But I'm feeling good now other than the tired legs. So we'll see....I might take on 26.2 miles again.
