OK, so here's a followup thread.

I'm partial to the Blue Ridge Mountains myself. My grandma lived in Virginia near the Blue Ridge and I spent a lot of summertimes down there. As an adult I've spent a LOT of time in North carolina -- Watauga County (Boone, home of Appalachian State University), Wilkesboro and Deep Gap (home of Doc Watson and Merlefest), Ashe County -- totally rural and home to generations of great unsung local bluegrass and old-time musicians and fiddle makers -- and then into the Smokies to Warren's home town of Asheville. North Carolina's mountains really sing to my soul.

Squatch, I called on President Bush to relocate you to New Mexico right after 9/11. Where would you move? Be specific.

Colorado. My wife and I are planning to do that after the economy improves.

I love Colorado. That would pick too, the harder part would be picking the city/town to live in.

That's about mine too. I've gone to Galax Va for the fiddler's convention many years (9) and like it there. My friend has land there (Independence, VA) and promises me I have a room once he builds on it.

We live in Northern Fauquier County, Virginia....but given the opportunity, we'd move to Highland County, VA, or down to Smith Mountain Lake.

based on the current value of my retirement funds, ain't gonna happen....

My wife and I went to Galax, summer of 2000 I think it was... We did a canoe trip on the New River from NC into VA and went to the Fiddlers Convention. A kid from Ashe County, NC who we knew -- he was like 12 or 13 at the time -- finished in the top 10 in the banjo competition that year, and we were there to cheer him on.

I kinda like right here where I am now (near Macon and Atlanta). The music just sounds right here.

Sedona's great, and if I have my way, you'll have a famous neighbor year-round there....

Am I the only city boy here?

I'm thinking a Park Avenue or Lake Shore Drive penthouse.

I really like where I live.

I would like to have a little pied-a-terre in the West Village though too.

I am living at my choice right now. Middle/Lower NC. Close to the mountains, beach. I can be in Asheville in a little over an hour. Nice camping spots all around, good fishing, coastal fishing. The beach is around 4 hours from us.

Now second choice would be either Oak Island NC or Harwichport Cape Cod Mass.

This is a toughie ... there are so many wonderful spots in the US and it seems like each have their own charm. So - multiple choice West? Big Sur or somewhere near Half Moon Bay. Southwest? Taos, New Mexico. Southeast? Ashville, North Carolina (mountains) or Beaufort, North Carolina (ocean). Mountain living? Telluride or Ouray Colorado. I must stop now!!!

my wife and i used to live in PB and la jolla - right down the street from windansea.

San Diego would be it for me. mountains, beach, sun and a great, laid back vibe. plus, it has the belly up tavern. a great place for music.
