Sorry to hear what some of you are facing personally and at work. if there's such a thing as a nondenominational group prayer for us all, I hope this counts as one.

I'm lucky enough to work for one of the few large banks still AAA rated. My job's probably safe but bonuses (which are really part of our pay) will be meager and they just cut our pension out. Basically because they can and there's few jobs out there.

That's the good news, my father's elderly and ill and my nasty divorce seems to get worse every time I think it can't.

But, I thank God for my children, my health and not wanting for anything essential and remember to take pleasure in the simple things like the way my dog goes apesh-t when I get home, the bass lines in "My Wife" by The Who and that delicious amber color JD turns when it melts the ice just right.

No matter who wins this election, we all share life's miseries and pleasures together and we should remember that when we're bitching at each other.

This thread puts a face on what's really happening in the country. And greggallmanfan is right...we're in it together, no matter how heated the debate might get.

I'm in the financial services industry... our division just got laid off this morning. 40 people.
Did you loose your job?
Yep. I got a decent severance pkg so I'm ok until the end of year.
Sorry to hear this, Chris. Glad you got some decent severance and hopefully you'll be back in the job market soon with no major impact on your life.

Jack - sorry to hear you and Phyllis are looking at this hard decision of moving from the house you love. Hopefully whatever happens it will be wonderful for you both.

This thread perfectly represents how difficult things have become here in the US.

I guess I'm really lucky to be in a *apparently* recession-proof business. People still love hot wings no matter what! In fact, there's a nationwide shortage of wings right now which has driven up the prices (not good).

Every time we talk to the suppliers its, "Just hatch more chickens."

"It's not that simple."

Oh, really?

Financial meltdown, two wars gone astray and now a chicken wing shortage? This is what McCain meant about "Protectionism" - we need to protection some of these chickens that the Chinese keep exporting for their General Tso's and Kung Pao.

Man - I hate to hear so many folks suffering. Allen - if you're considering NO again, you might drop by Galveston/Houston before you get there. I hear that place is in pretty hardcore need of getting put back together.

Sorry to hear about Jack & Chris as well. Jack - I know we've taken a few stabs at each other, but I hope things work out for you.

Hang in there, y'all. I've hit some horrific bumps in my road, but somehow - everybody will make it. If I get too bluesy, I usually stick in Fillmore East. It might not give you much money, but it sure as hell will make you feel better....

Thanks. I hope the stabs were/are only politics as usual.
Everything is relative, so I don't feel horrible about probably having to move. Like I said, at least in Denver you don't need to go far to find cheaper housing. If we lived in a larger metro area I'm sure we would be looking at a bigger move. It may be time for me to start acting retired anyhow!

Hey Jack - East Tn is a great place to retire - lakes, golf couses, mountains, and there is cheap real estate in very nice planned communities! Kahite, Tellico Village The cost of living is cheaper than a lot of places, too. We'd love to have you and Phyllis, too. Even if you are a liberal!

I live in Michigan. I'm used to this sh-t. The whole country will be like us if BarryO gets his way.

I'm not hurting though. I bought a modest house and paid it off years ago. I own three of my four cars outright and the last is a biz write-off. My kids college is 1/3 paid for and the oldest is only in seventh grade. I didn't get anything from anybody and I didn't ask. My wife and I worked our tails off for all of it and resent being told we'll have to 'sacrifice' to make others lives better. Let them do what we did.
